I’ve been hearing this song on the Tri-CyclenLo prescription birth control commercials, and I’m curious about what this song is and who originally sang it, and what the song’s about. Does anyone know? I do remember the song from way-back-when, but I can’t place it.
It seems a slightly odd song for the purpose. Where does she go again?
The version in the commercial was done by Sixpence None the Richer, better known for the hit “Kiss Me.”
I know they were originally a Christian band (the name of the group comes from a quote by Christian author C.S. Lewis).
The song is a remake- it was originally done by a band called the La’s. As far as I can tell, there’s no deep meaning to the song. It’s just about a girl the singer is obsessed with.
There are several songs out there with a similar title. I think Marshall Crenshaw has one too. But that commercial plays the Sixpence version of the La’s song “There she goes”
The song was on the “So I Married an Axe Murderer” soundtrack, which my husband and I enjoyed very much. I think the movie was a bomb at the Box Office, but it’s a pretty fun movie with Mike Myers and Nancy Travis.
The song was definitely about heroin, not about a girl. Or so I read in the NME, anyway.
Spectre of Pithecanthropus, you’re thinking of There She Goes Again by the VU, as also covered by REM (among others, no doubt). Different song, but similar sentiments.
That would be The La’s, in the early 90s. (Scroll down the page to be able to hear a clip of the original song.) It’s about unrequited love. Here are the lyrics. The guy’s in love with a girl from a distance. It was covered by Sixpence None the Richer, and that is the version you hear in the commercial. They are best known for the song “Kiss Me”.
