Seems that I remember that there’s a name, a French name at that, for the part of the story that happens after the story’s climax. Just wondering if someone can refresh my memory.

It’s called a denouement, I think there’s an accent over the first ‘e’. Pronounced “daynooma”, if I remember the old French lessons.
More like duh-noooo-mong, actually. ;-). It comes from the French denouer which means to untie.
Ah no you are right, it’s pronounced daynoomong in French, cos of the dé.
Which makes the spelling, with the accent, dénouement – “the untying.”
What’s with the ‘g’? It’s more like daynoomanh (silent ‘n’).

Ironically, the French “unraveling” is what we call in English “tying up the loose ends.” Of course, the French term is a more literal metaphor, comparing a drama to a tapestry, which is unraveled in the ends.
These days, you’re just as likely to see a post-climax climax follow the climax. I love these things, especially when people start leaving the theater before the movie is really over. James Cameron has one in practically all his movies. Sometimes two.
