So I was watching Hardball tonight, and Matthews was talking with Alan Dershowitz (sp?) and some other fellow whose name escapes me about this poet who was invited to Harvard, dis-invited, and then re-invited. Why? Because, among other things of a similar nature, he said that all Jews living in the West Bank should be “shot dead.” He was invited to give a lecture on poetry.
The issue was whether or not Harvard should invite the guy to speak. The other guy (ie not Alan Dershowitz) was of the opinion that Harvard shouldn’t endorse the guy’s inflammatory political ideas by officially inviting him to speak. He made a commment to the effect of:
*If the Arab Students Association wants to invite the guy, fine. *
What the fuck did the choderwad mean by that? It’s one thing to disagree with the guy for being anti-Isreal, but it’s completely different to imply that such views would make his ideas attractive to the Arab Students Association.
Neither Dershowitz nor Matthews commented on that. Either they gracefully decided to let it pass or they didn’t catch it.
Whatever the case, that comment was in extremely poor taste.
I congratulate the guy for both losing sight of the issue, bringing in unnecessary, inflammatory garbage to the discussion, and for ultimately undermining his argument.
What a dick.
