Congratulations, Doctor! Woohoo!

And I should be working on my dissertation as well instead of posting. Just one more post, then I’ll get started… (Hi, MeanOldLady!)

Congratulations! I’ve seen how much blood, sweat and tears go into a Ph.D. (or, better you than me!).

Big congratulations from this quarter.

(now, TVGuy will slowly slink away, feeling completely inadequate in this overlay large room full of really, really smart people…)

:tips hat to Orbifold:

I remember when Daddy got finished with his Ph.D. (Structural Engineering, 1966, South Carolina) I was 6 years old. He would come home from class with stacks and stacks of huge books and disappear into the master bedroom. I don’t think he did anything but study and work on that dissertation (which Mother dutifully typed for him on a manual typewriter). On weekends sometimes his engineering school buddies would come over and they’d sit around drinking beer and talking about eigenvectors and punching cards for computer programs. It seemed so grand and mysterious to me. I still have that awe and respect for anyone who can complete a Ph.D.

We teased him somewhat about being “Dr.” Mom even made a label and put it on the steering wheel of his car ~ it said “Dr. Daddy”. That car was eventually stolen.

Years and years later my brother was in a junkyard and spotted an ancient Opal Kadett. Could it be? Sure enough, the steering wheel still proudly proclaimed: “Dr. Daddy”.

Wear it with pride Oribifold. You deserve it.
