That's no Nazi rally, it's a revival!

It also kinda looks to me here, as if you are engaging in a “personal attack”. Lying? When the WORST I have done is apply the special case to the general case- ie “over-generalizing”? I think that comparing one part of something to another part of something else is comparing the two. I really do not see how it is not. Care to explain?

Daniel, I hope you were comparing the** actions** of the moderators to the mafia, and not comparing the moderators to the mafia. Otherwise I think you owe David an apology

You know, it’s really quite amusing to see Daniel squirm like this. He’s trying to twist things so much he’s going to end up looking like a pretzel.

All to get out of simply admitting he was wrong.

Tsk, tsk, tsk…

OK, david. I think that comparing a PART of a whole is, to all intents & purposes- comparing the whole. This is a reasonable viewpoint, and hardly could be considered “lying”.

This is clearly a subject that falls into both of our “blind spots”. We disagree. Can we drop it now?

So if I say, “Frog hearts are very similar to human hearts,” I am also saying, “Frogs are very similar to humans”?

I once met a black guy in prison. Therefore, applying DITWD “logic,” the entire black ethnicity is criminal.

Yes- quix- if you said that "you met a black guy in prison- and he was a typical black person, with the “black criminal mind”. Of course, that would also make whoever said that a racist.

Let us put it this way. Somebody starts a thread. He titles it “That’s no nazi stormtrooper, that’s a Hasidic Jew!”- and goes on to compare the wearing of lots of “basic black” by both. He is only comparing a “part” of the Nazis to a 'part" of the Hasidics. However, he would be banned so fast that Tuba would have to cool down her keyboard after. And rightly so. And- how does that differ here? The OP had no justification whatsoever to compare Nazis, or any part of ther activities to Christians, or any part of their habits.

And he SAID he “only did it because he thought it was funny”. He really did not think there was any real connection just- “It was funny”. Nazi salutes are not funny.

Some congregations wear white robes. Would it be OK to compare those robes to the ones the KKK wear? Would it be OK to compare the Bible to “Mein Kamphf”- hey they are only comparing a part to a part, right?

I know this has been discussed many times before, but I have to agree that egregious references to Nazis can be annoying at the least and offensive at worst. In this case, I’d call it quite unnecessary. Any use of the image of Nazis to make any point should be done for an extremely good reason.
If the OP thinks this is appropriate, fine. I would have to differ. But if other people protest because this type of imagery upsets them, I have to sympathize with them. I don’t think they should have to appologize for being offended!
Quite honestly, I’m surprised by the reaction to the reaction.

Other topic/hijack:

I have even seen Swastikas (counter-clockwise, I belive) in old Jewish texts. It seems to (have been) a nearly universally used symbol.

I’m sure that Tubadiva would not appreciate you telling her how to do her job – especially since you’re wrong.
