Come on… the Rams have a lockdown on this, don’t they? While they might face some stiff competition in the Saints in Week 10, and Linehan might just be able to out-uncoach Romeo Crennel in Week 8, I have no doubt they’ll manage to safely finish the season with anything less than 15 unblemished losses.
If they play their cards (and their Gus Frerottes) right, they’ll go the whole season without even being threatened by a mark in the W column.
I am pleased to report that my beloved Miami Dolphins now lead the entire NFL with the longest current losing streak of eight games. When life deals you (Cleo) Lemon, make Lemonade!
And there were two. The Saints up and won a game, not that they had a good shot of going all the way, though. Meanwhile, things are so bad in St. Louis they kneeled down on the last play of their loss to Baltimore. Tom Brady’s arm might get a respite next week when they play the Dolphins. I could rush for 100 yards against them.
0 wins:
Miami Dolphins (AFC East)
St. Louis Rams (NFC West)
Two of the one-win teams moved out. The Eagles and the Vikings beat current and former members of this list, respectively.
1 win:
Buffalo Bills (AFC East)
New York Jets (AFC East)
Cincinatti Bengals (AFC North)
New Orleans Saints (NFC South)
Atlanta Falcons (NFC South)
The Rams will at least get Bulger back at some point, a former Pro Bowler. The Dolphins look to be stuck with Cleo Lemon for the rest of the year, which makes me think they have the best shot at 0-16.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane – it’s Monday, December 20th, 2005. The powers that be at ABC are understanably pissed, because their big Monday Night Football presentation is the 12-1 Pats facing the 2-11 Dolphins. Football fans across the country settle in to watch what will surely be a one-sided shelacking.
Against their respective division leaders, both our remaining contenders did what they do best, lose with spectacular ineptitude. I said the Patriots would run against the weak Dolphins defense, but Brady decided to get his first career perfect passer rating instead. Whatever works, I guess.

With the Jets playing the Bengals and the Saints playing the Falcons, we were guaranteed that two teams would be leaving the runner-up list here, but the Bills won, too. Go Trent! The Rams play the Falcons later, and the Dolphins play the Jets again, who got their only win by beating said fish.
1 win:
New York Jets (AFC East)
Atlanta Falcons (NFC South)
Quick list of two-win teams: Bills, Bengals, Raiders, Eagles, Vikings, Saints, 49ers
I don’t know how many games the Bills will win this year, but I think the two they’ve won, plus very competitive games with Dallas and Denver (even though Denver is nothing special this year) show they’re not among the league’s most putrid. I thought Edwards was a good draft pick and I’m very pleased with how well that’s paying off.
The Rams scored some points for a change, but the return of starters Bulger and Jackson couldn’t help them beat the Browns. In jolly old England, the Dolphins loss to the Giants was boring as hell. And we complain that their football takes two hours for nothing to happen. The next foreign-played NFL game had better be between two actual NFL teams…

The Falcons didn’t lose this week, they had a bye. The Jets likewise didn’t play, although they did have a game; they lost to the Bills (Go Trent!).
1 win:
New York Jets (AFC East)
Atlanta Falcons (NFC South)
Quickly shortening list of two-win teams: Bengals, Raiders, Vikings…
and my 49ers, who won’t even get the benefit of their high first-round pick next year because they traded it (to the Patriots) to pick up Joe Staley. Is there any chance Dennis Dixon will be available in the second round?
I sort of let this thread slide…
The Rams got two wins during the hiatus, but the Dolphins are still going strong.
0 wins:
Miami Dolphins (AFC East): They got points from their questionably-high draft pick, but they couldn’t stop the Eagle’s backup QB while giving a career day to Brian Westbrook.
No teams with only one win?
2 wins:
New York Jets (AFC East): What the hell did the Jets do to the Steelers?
Oakland Raiders (AFC West): Now holding the third-longest current losing streak…
San Francisco 49ers (NFC West): Will someone please fire Mike Nolan? And if you’re in the position to do that, go ahead and fire yourself, too.
St. Louis Rams (NFC West): Congratulations, you’ve now solidified your hold on the coveted “third worst” title. PS: Donnie Jones you have a silly facemask.
I don’t think the fish can pull-off the perfect season. They have six games left, and five of them could be Dolphin wins though they will be favored in none of them.
San Fran with 2 wins could have the 2nd or 3rd pick overall next year. Oh wait, they traded that to the Pats for last year’s #28 overall. Not good enough? Okay, they also threw in a 4th that the Pats gave to Oakland for Moss. A 2 or 3 overall and Moss for a 28. Is this the new math?
As much as I hate the Pats (and I REALLY hate them - I’m a colts fan), the Dolphins deserve nothing less. Every time someone comes close people go on and on about the freakin’ '72 Dolphins.
Regarding the '07 Dolphins, they have been close too many times for me to think they can go 0 for 16. If things fall right for them, they have a shot at winning at home against the jets, at Buffalo, and at home against Baltimore (only because it’ll be a low scoring game more than likely).
…watch them beat New England.
The perfect ending for the season for me would be for the dolphins to go 0 for 16,and the Pats to go 17-0 and lose to the Colts in the AFC championship game (it isn’t looking good, the Colts need a few people back for that to have any chance at happening and one of them ain’t coming).
