The 10th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Ooof! Was better than I feared but worse than I had hoped!

Still, I’m glad football is back.

Hur hur. Steelers -> property of the Broncos. Go Denver!

Good game though. The Pittsburgh offense dug it out over and over again. Just wasn’t enough this week.

You are the lone shining light in a vast sea of darkness.

So Steelers fans…whom would you rather see win tonight? Bengals or Ravens? I would assume you’d like to see the Ravens lose more as you probably think they are the better team so therefore more threatening to the Steelers in the divisional race.

And you would be wrong.

So, how about dem Bengals?

So it looks like the black and gold are nearly universally picked this week which - as I’ve mentioned before - always makes me nervous. (I’m superstitious.)

But since I hate the Jets, or more accurately, Rex Ryan, winning this week would be double plus good.

Go Steelers!

Being a Steeler fan living in the NY area, please win today! If not, I’ll be subjected to Jets Super Bowl potential commentary for at least a week! Not to mention that teams that start 0-2 only make the playoffs 12% of the the time.

Pre-game is reporting Troy as questionable (which I did not know).

This does not bode well…

I wasn’t shocked they lost last week. The Steelers give up big plays which is Peyton’s bread and butter and without Clark, it was only going to be easier. My only question was whether the offense could keep up and it didn’t. I knew they were probably doomed by half time.

This week however I will be shocked if they lose. GO STEELERS!!!

No kidding. Who else will take the wrong angle and let the WR turn a screen pass into a 71 yard touchdown or bite on a play fake and let the TE go up the seam for 30 yards?

I would be a lot more worried about how bad the offense looked last week than the defense. Harrison and Clark were out.

OK, so the Steelers lost to the broncos in a rematch of last year’s playoff games where the Broncos were led by Tim Tebow, and now they get to play a team with Tim Tebow on it.

Coincidence? I think not.

Pittsburgh by 10. The Jets suck and even missing Harrison and Polamalu, much as that hurts, they have it covered.

Woohoo! GO STEELERS!!!

It would be tough to think of a better regular-season weekend. The Ratbirds, Patriots and Cowboys all lost and Pittsburgh demolished the Jets. The only blemish was the Eagles, but they had to win so what the hell.

Anyway, the Steelers’ secondary is scary. By scary, I don’t mean scary good. Six different times Santonio Holmes earned a first down on a penalty. Two of them were shady, ticky-tack calls, but they simply could not stop him. If Sanchez had thrown to Holmes all night they would have won on penalty yardage alone. They really missed Polamalu tonight.

Otherwise, they looked great. And they closed it out, something they are not noted for. I’m happy with that performance, and if they fix the secondary (yeah, I know) they’ll go far this year.

As nice as it is to get the win I don’t like what I see from either line. The offensive line doesn’t appear to do anything right unless they’re running right being Gilbert. The defensive line is not occupying blockers like they did when Aaron Smith was there. Too early to panic but this game won’t cut it against the Ravens; they need to get better.

So, does anybody think that the Steelers won’t lay the wood to Oakland? Even without Harrison and Polamalu they should have this game covered. Steelers by 10.

About the late game: I find it to be positively loathsome. Why can’t they both lose? Maybe they’ll play each other so hard they’ll decimate their lineups for the season. That’s the only way I can find any reason to smile about it. A Patriots victory would certainly be to the benefit of the Steelers, but every time I think I can make myself hope that they win I feel like I have to puke. I just can’t do it. I certainly can’t even fathom hoping that Baltimore wins, so that leaves me in a quandary. Who do I hate less, and does it really matter?

Seems we are pretty universally picked again - and since I’m superstitious and since we won last week when I mentioned that I am superstitious about such things, I now have to mention it again (very meta, are my superstitions…)

Go Steelers!

I rarely predict games but this game has to be a blowout. All my years of complaining about Arians centered very much around his handling of this exact type of game. Unless Ben gets greedy and forces throws this should be a big game. Here’s hoping we go into the bye on a roll and without any more big injuries.

Whoopsie. Carson Palmer!

That’s why they play the games!
