The 10th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Ugh.

This is *exactly *why I hate when we are universally favored!

Very enjoyable result. Best Steelers game I can remember for quite some time.

Yeah, tell me.

That’s twice now that Pittsburgh lost a game they should have won. I’m sitting there watching it slip away, just like the Donkos game in Week 1. They still had the lead, they were still moving the ball, and POP!, there’s the fumble. Then the Raiders started moving the ball, something they weren’t really doing in the second or third quarter, and I knew, I KNEW, the game was over. It’s a sickening feeling to see a game slip away after such a great performance.

One big complaint today, not really game-related, but to the NFL: I missed the entire first quarter of a scheduled game. Why? The NFL, 3 minutes before the scheduled start, switched to one of the overtime games. Once there, they proceeded to show the entire overtime period. Then, after that was done, they switched to ANOTHER overtime game, which went another 15 minutes.

That is horseshit. If you have a game scheduled, you don’t switch to an overtime game and then claim that you have to stay to the end. You switch to the game you were supposed to show and stay there, giving updates on the other games that you were not previously showing. The Steelers broadcast got Heidied, and it was absolute bullshit.

I guess my mind is made up for me tonight. I do not want the Ratbirds to win under any circumstances. It’s bad enough that the Bengals (ptooey!) are now in first place, let’s not add injury to insult.

Sigh…congrats to Oakland. You earned it.

We’ll see. Its not like the Bengals dominated RGIII (well, they DID, but not for the whole game) and I am starting to feel like its anybody’s division at this point because the NFL is being pretty unpredictable right now (Philly got smoked by Arizona, SF got beat my Minny, NO is 0-3, etc). So far pretty crazy.

Both my brother and my girlfriend are Raiders fans so let’s just say I really needed them to win this one…

Sorry… :stuck_out_tongue:

The Broncos beat you in week 1 fair and square. The Steelers did not do the Broncos any favors by losing to Oakland though. Wtf? Why couldn’t you beat those guys?

You could fix this with the right cable provider. I don’t really like mine, but I can find just about every game on more than one channel. My gf can record them for me- apparently there is a Tivo built-in, I didn’t even know it what there and I still don’t know how to use it. But I think you could record multiple games over the day and possibly record one while you watch another. I don’t think the Steelers can be fixed, but your tv troubles probably can.

Nowhere did I say that the game was not won fair and square. I did say that Pittsburgh lost a game they should have won, which is true since they had the lead at the half and thoroughly dominated the third quarter, and then it all went wrong, to the point that Denver had the lead for all of about 2 minutes the whole game.

No, they can’t. Blackout rules dictate that the local coverage is what I have to watch, the Ticket will black the game out in my area. The only way I can avoid this situation altogether is to stream it illegally, which I can do easily do but do not want to, and as far as that goes it will be the last word on the subject because I don’t want to see this thread closed.

Needless to say, the above post was from me.

Maybe the Steelers were unlucky to face the Broncos week one and didn’t know, but that is the trajectory you have to be able to handle with them so far this year. They start out slow and then pick up steam as they figure out your team. If the games were 5 quarters they would win them all- as it stands they have only beat the Steelers so far. I disagree the Steelers ‘should have won’- the Broncos are a quality squad this year.

This seems like good thread for this opinion question. I’m going to buy the new Nike Steeler away jersey this weekend. I wanted to get the Mike Wallace but am afraid that he may not be around for too many years. Is there any reason to believe that he’ll stay? I’ll probably just get the Antonio Brown jersey to be safe.

I’d get Brown to be safe. Can always go ‘Legend’ and get Polamalu, as I doubt he will finish his career with any other team, and his would be a jersey that you could wear for years and years even after he’s retired.

Just get the Mike Vick jersey to ensure you’re on the winning side of things. Plus they come in steak and bacon scented varieties should you ever choose to use the jersey as a tug-of-war chew toy with a large breed dog.

Well, not a *pretty *win - but a win! Vick was certainly one of our most valuable players today!

As a BIG BLUE fan, a big thank you to the Steelers.

He’ll be there next year, at least. The Steelers will almost certainly lay the franchise tag on him if he doesn’t sign a long-term deal.

I was at the game today, and here are a few of my observations:

  1. Troy Polamalu may have broken up his body a bit too much to be effective. You can only play like a wild man for so long before it catches up with you, and he’s not dealing with injury very well anymore.

  2. Ryan Mundy needs to be careful with the helmet-to-helmet stuff. He’ll be suspended for that one.

  3. The call on Ryan Clark was nonsense. The whistle hadn’t blown, no matter what the ref said. I was there, and there was no whistle. The guy was still fighting, so he was fair game.

  4. The refs were really not good today. Granted, Willie Colon is a holding machine, but some of those calls were lame, like the fumble that got called back. I thought the rule was “incontrovertible evidence”, something that surely didn’t exist on some of them. The fumble into the end zone recovered by the Steelers was a particular sore spot. What you didn’t see when they went to commercial was the refs placing the ball on the one and acting like the fumble never happened for a few minutes. They were acting like the replacements people criticized for their calls.

  5. The Steelers choked away yet another 10-point second half lead. This time they pulled it out, but come on. They need to get ahead and hold the lead, not make every game a come-from-ahead loss.

  6. James Harrison said in an interview broadcast on Cooler Talk after the game that the fines and suspensions are foremost on his mind and that he’s afraid to hit people because they might duck their head and cause him to be suspended and/or fined. The NFL has effectively diminished his effectiveness, which may not have been the goal but certainly ended up being the effect.

  7. Banking on Suisham kicking into the open end with wind and rain is dicey at best. They need to just put the game away and not depend on his uncertain foot.

  8. Spindenhall played well for his first game back, but he still has fumblitis. He put the ball on the ground untouched on the first second-half drive. Also, someone tell Todd Haley that he is allowed to call a pass on first down. Just saying.

That was a fun game in spite of the above. It’ll be fun going into work tomorrow and hearing the excuses from the Eagles fans around here, not to mention my own propensity for talking all kinds of trash. Thank God the Steelers won, or I’d be paying for it for a long time.

Oh good, I missed his whining about rules while he was out. If he can’t adapt his style of play to a rule change that’s been in effect for more than three years, maybe he’s just not as good as he thought he was.

Your other observations are reasonable, but Harrison’s blather is equal parts butt-hurt and excuses.

I only got to see the highlights for this game but it’s easy to see he’s holding the ball low and, worse yet, swinging it around as he goes through traffic. It’s amazing he hasn’t lost more. Jerome Bettis was one of the best at carrying it high and tight; it’s not like Mendenhall has to look far for inspiration on the correct way to hold it.
