The 15th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Damn. Todd Haley must be the luckiest guy in the world as an OC. He just lucks into great offensive teams that are consistently in the top 10, but he has nothing to do with it. He deserves no credit for any of the statistical success, no credit for the development of players while he’s OC. The fact he has a track record of success before and after taking the Steelers OC job is just some sort of anomoly, due to him being the luckiest guy in the world.

I’m not saying the offensive success of the Cards or the Steelers is due solely to his amazing talents, that would be as dumb as saying he’s doesn’t deserve any credit for it either. But nothing changes the fact that the Steelers have ranked in the top 3 offensive teams in the NFL in the past 4 years, and the time they didn’t, they were a lowly 7th. You can hand wave that away, as well as any success he has had in the past, by saying he’s just lucky. I just don’t find that a very compelling argument.

I find myself agreeing with Hamlet. Weird, weird week.

They’re not moving to London, and your testimony is tainted by your hatred of Vontaze Burfict, whom you would welcome with open arms to your team if given the chance. In fact, if he already played for you, you’d find the same excuses for him as you have done for Hines Ward, James Harrison, Shazier, Mitchell and even the exalted Antonio Brown, he of the karate kick to the face of a hapless Browns punter during a return for no good reason other than to do it.

Burfict is the FIRST player we have had that is LIKE a Stealer…dirty and ruthless. If he was YOUR bully, you’d defend and celebrate him. And if not you, then the general masses of toothless inbreds that root for the Stealers. That’s just the Appalachian, wild and wonderful world of the White’s way.

Didn’t Haley get the shit kicked out of him in some Pittsburgh area bar recently? Like right around New Years? The guy just strikes me as a real pain in the ass. But he’s successful I guess.

It’s impressive that you can come up with all that vitriol about defending dirty players, while arguing they’d love Burfict in the black and gold, based on nothing other than the imagined insults flying around your head.

Are too! (It was going to be Jacksonville, but that’s an actual football team now. )

Would not! (But I do appreciate the correct use of “whom”, the lack of correct usage of which vexes me sorely, despite English not actually being my language and all)

Also, not sure you noticed this, but you keep misspelling “Steelers”. For example, correct usage would be: “the six-time Super Bowl Champions Pittsburgh Steelers”.

Right. Because it’s Haley who does a stutter step and all of a sudden is running through the second level. Or making some ludicrously phenomenal catch over two or three defenders. He’s not doing anything that any other competent OC couldn’t have done with the toolbox that he’s got (er, had). But somehow it’s his offensive genius that is the cause. Please.

You realize that he was OC of the Cards for all of two years, and that the three guys I mentioned were already seasoned pros? At that point what I’ll laughingly call a ‘running game’ (right about 75 ypg) was Edge on the downslope from his glory time with the Colts and the injury-prone Tim Hightower. The Cards were all about their air attack, because they had no other choice. And that really had little to do with Haley.

To think that it’s not impossible that Brady could end up leading the Patriots to a 7th Super Bowl championship less than 13 months from now…

I very specifically said that wasn’t my point. But you keep pounding on that imaginary point no one tried to make, and I’m sure you’ll feel better about yourself soon. Good luck!

Brady is 2 ridiculous catches by the Giants from having 7 Super Bowl rings already.

And he’s 1 ridiculous catch from having 4, if we’re being fair.

And somehow you managed to miss the real point of my argument:

Address that.

He was probably fired because he was an embarrassment to the organization after his drunken episode, and he’s nobody special as far as OC’s are concerned, apparently not special (or liked) enough to keep on the job.

I did. I provided stats and rankings to show Haley’s done a very good job as OC, both with the Steelers and the Cardinals, and you simply handwave it away with the idea that anyone could have had that success with that kind of talent. Seems we’re at an impasse.

Which happened 9 months before the season even started, giving the Steelers more than ample opportunity to fire him and hire anyone else (you maybe, because it’s such an easy job). But apparently he was “special” enough to keep on for this year. A year where, once again, the Steelers offense was top 3.

Little touchy, are we? Descending to attempted insults? But then I can see why you might not like me, being that I won our fantasy league.

Funny, but I don’t remember claiming that I was a competent OC. Anyone, please feel free to correct me if I did so. (Actually, I have pretty solid knowledge of the X’s and O’s but not the experience with the actual playcalling.)

Are you referring to another drunken episode involving Haley? Because the one in which he ‘took a fall’ happened less than three weeks ago, on New Year’s Eve.

Well, as it’s Eagles vs. Patriots I no longer give a shit who wins. It’ll suck no matter what.

My opinion too.

Thirded.

Sweet, sweet tears.

Fixed that for you.

On the bright side I might clean my garage Super Bowl Weekend.
