The 2007 Indianapolis 500 thread!

Hey, race fans, let’s talk about the 500!

The field will be set in about 35 minutes, and I’m excited that one of my favorite drivers, Roberto Moreno, has made it onto the grid (although in the last row) for the third time. I’ve been a big fan of Pupo’s since his great stint as Super Sub for several Champ Car teams in 1997. The other reason is that he’s the driver closest to me in age: 48.

But I’m excited about others in the field too: the three women, Marco and Mario Andretti, and Al Unser, Jr., who’s had some serious personal problems in the last few years. Although none of these is a leading contender for the win, they certainly add a lot of human interest to the race.

If I had to call a winner, I’d pick Kanaan, Helio, or Weldon. But I’ll be rooting for Roberto the hardest.

Who’s your choice?

The red cars haven’t been that impressive, really. Wheldon and Dixon haven’t been that good, and I have my doubts about just how good the Penskemobiles will be in race conditions.

I would put my money on either Kanaan or an M. Andretti.

Only a couple more hours now. I’ve got my chips and soda ready.

As you can see from the live track cams, it is completely wet at Indianapolis. Hopefully the storms will move on and we can get the race in today…I took the day off work just so I could watch the Monaco GP (which I missed most of anyway), the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600.

I see what you mean. Well, not about the Monaco GP and I can take or leave NASCAR, but it’s nice to be able to watch Indy. When I was working a job that often had me working from 2-10 PM on Sundays, when the race started on time I could watch the entire race (since it would start at 11 AM local time) and still make it to work on time.

As long as they get the race off today or tomorrow, that’s good enough for me. It’s my own decision whether or not I go to work tomorrow and for how long, especially the way I’ve been feeling so far this weekend.

Is Jim Nabors really not going to be singing Back Home Again in Indiana?

From what I read, he will not be there today due to illness.

It’s looking better now. The radar looks clear, cars are on the grid, jet dryers are out. Let’s hope everything gets started on time and goes well.

Who are you rooting for?

I would like to see Michael Andretti win, just so he could finally close his career out with that, but I seriously doubt he will. I predict Sam Hornish or Tony Kanaan for the win.

Story of my life. My favorite is the first one out.

Dammit.
