Me, for one. I’m not too happy about some of the new rules like the engine freeze and tire restrictions, but I’ll still watch.
I love Australia because the race begins at the right civilized hour of 10 pm here, perfect for viewing from a pub. I’ll be going to Indy again this year (been every year save 2006) and I’m going to try for Montreal.
As for predictions, I think Ferrari is back on top this year, and Massa will be your World Champion.
Kimi might get to drive a car that is as reliable as he is. (No comments, there.)
And all my pre-season predictions went out the window with qualifying, if this grid is any indicator. I know it’s just the first race but boy, was I off. 'Cept for the part about Kimi.
Before you come in and dump all over a thread why don’t you at least figure out what the hell you are talking about.
About the race - Kimi pretty much ran away with it. I think the Ferrari experience with Bridgestones definitely helped them. And how good is Lewis Hamilton going to be? Yikes - 3rd in his debut F1 race. Massa claws his up to 6th from the very back.
I’m always rooting for Scott Speed and I’m almost always disappointed. This time it was a tire but as he said he was lucky that it gave out when it did instead of on a tighter portion of the track.
Overall a good race. I think watching the McLaren boys race against each other is going to fun, and BMW will be in the mix if they can finish races.
I’m not, but I don’t watch much auto racing to begin with (I’ll watch NASCAR if there’s nothing else on and I don’t feel like doing anything, and I always watch the Indy 500) and F1 has done things that piss me off. Having a single team dominate year after year is no fun and what they did at Indy in 2005 was enough to pretty much turn me off permanently.
I’m somewhat fired up, although the cricket World Cup is occupying more of my attention at the present time. I have to admit that I’m torn between supporting Kimi and supporting McLaren, because they’ve always been my team, for unfathomable reasons, but that’s a dilemma I can deal with later on in the season.
While I understand what you are saying, I would assume that people who didn’t care about Formula 1 would not even open the thread, much less respond.
What got me riled in particular is that Formula 1 does not go “round and round in circles”, and the vast majority of fans want to see a clean race, not a huge crash. So it seems that your reasons for not being fired up are not correct.
But this isn’t GD or GQ, so I’m going to cordially invite you to watch a Formula 1 race sometime and see what you think. The Malaysian Grand Prix is in 3 weeks (April 8th). Watch it and you’ll see that it’s about as far away from NASCAR as you can be and still have 4 wheels on the cars.
Colour me mildly interested. Too many races in the past - especially with Schumacher - have simply been parades. Part of the problem has been the TV coverage concentrating on the leaders. But I’m more interested in watching two drivers fighting it out than watching the leader streak away. I don’t care if they’re in 9th and 10th place or whatever: it’s all good action.
I don’t want to start an argument here, but those are my reasons why I don’t like Formula 1, not your reasons or necessarily anybody else’s reasons. Clearly this is more of an IMHO response, but the question was asked.
I thought they did a very good job of this during the Australian GP. Kimi was untouchable but I think we only saw him for a minute or two once he was in the lead. The rest of the time was spent back in the pack watching guys claw for points.
And GuanoLad we’ll just disagree I guess. But mark your calender for April 8th!
I’ve watched plenty of Formula 1 races, thanks. And precious few NASCAR, thank goodness. It’s still going round and round a track with no real thrill for me.
Please start a “Who’s fired up about the WRC season?” thread. I won’t post in that one about how that sport doesn’t interest me, and you can go do your thing there. Sound good?
Not to put this thread back on track or anything but
Its good to see my Total Racecardriver Boyfriend (TRB, tm) Kimi on top where he belongs. Maybe now he’ll go more than a race at a time without his car exploding.
