Wow, what a game last night. I feel asleep in front of the TV at some point in the 2nd OT and when I got up it was just after 3:00 and I was thinking that the game was over since they had just shown a highlight package that ended with a Dallas goal . So I headed up to bed thinking that Dallas had won, I was surprised to see that the game ended up the other way around.
Is it possible to have a “hockey hangover”?
And the refs were crap in the Ottawa/Pittsburgh game. Unfortunately, all I can remember now is the phantom hooking call on Crosby. I know there were more.
Harborwolf meh, maybe. I don’t think so, and I am pretty sure the NHL will agree with me, but YMMV.
Rysto, good one. The ones I most remember are when some Ottawa guy got a penalty for Malkin running into him, the Alfreddsson diving and them calling it tripping on the PK and teh Crosby “hook”.
Don’t forget all four calls that gave Ottawa its first period 5-on-3s. Aren’t the playoffs supposed to be physical? A little pushing and shoving is to be expected.
It’s kind of a tradition. Detroit fans don’t start cheering until the conference finals. Spoiled fans really. I think it’d be nice to see the sort of atmosphere other teams have: bands, crazed cheering fans, the whole bit.
That was a pleasant surprise. Obviously I hoped for a win, but 4-1 was more than I expected.
Detroit looked better than they have the last couple of years. They started the game hitting, playing dump and chase, and throwing the puck on net. Calgary looked like they couldn’t handle it. Towards the end, the frustration got to them. Phaneuf was trying to find somebody to fight after the final buzzer and Iginla was going after Zetterberg.
Obviously it’s just one game, but it’s certainly an encouraging on for the Red Wings. They proved that they are willing to do what it takes to win in the playoffs. Calgary needs to prove that they aren’t going to let frustration get the better of them.
Thanks, Harborwolf, I finally got to see it*. That looked intentional as hell. The good news is it’s not a MCL tear as some office mates feared, only a sprain. Look for San Jose to sweep.
*: I coulda seen it live, but stupid me trusted the stupid Comcast schedule saying Fox Sport Net was showing poker. so pissed.
He’s listed as extremely doubtful for Friday’s game, and day-to-day after that. Coach Wilson expects him to return before we finish them off. I expect his replacement in the meantime to be Joe Pavelski, who’s damn good but not even the best rookie on the team.
I feel old now. Checking the roster I see that I’m older than Joe Thornton.
Don’t worry. I’m sure Barry Trotz will explain to everyone later how there was no intent to injure and that was a perfectly legal check. If this keeps up, the league should look into ways to penalize teams for behavior like this.
As someone who has seen Nashville eight times this season, I could’ve told you that. The league really needs to step in and send the Predators a message or this will continue and someone will get seriously hurt. “Playoff hockey” is not a license to injure and aim checks at the head.
This just in. Radulov suspended for game 3 for his hit on Bernier. Judging by the picture, he may have also been suspended on suspicion of being a teen wolf.
Ugh. Ottawa showed up for a single period today, and lost. Every time I think that maybe, maybe this years’ team might make some noise, they come out with a performance like this. Unacceptable.
Pfft, Ottawa wasn’t that bad; they shot wild and that’s why they lost. They played just as well as Pittsburgh other than missing the net a lot in the first period.
Other than the scramble at the end of the third with the goalie pulled, I counted about 4 scoring chances in the first and third periods combined. They had no jump at all.
