The 2007 NHL Hockey Playoffs - Steppin' It Up for the Stanley Cup

It’s just the first period, but Calgary really needs to get their heads together. They could not have done a worse job. Penalty after penalty. Two five on threes for Detroit. Period ends with Detroit outshooting Calgary like crazy and a 2-0 Detroit lead in the game. If Calgary wants to win this game and stand a chance in the series, they need to rein themselves in.

Now I didn’t know this until today, but apparently getting outshot 51-15 is no way to win a hockey game. Neither is spending nearly the entire first half of the game shorthanded. I guess the Calgary Flames didn’t know it either, but they just found out.

Two games in and Detroit has beaten Calgary in every area. They’ve outshot them. They’ve out passed them. They’ve outplayed them. They’ve outhit them. They’ve shown more discipline. Pavel Datsyuk has shaken his playoff rep with two goals in two games. Jarome Iginla has two shots in two games. The only thing that has kept Calgary from being completely humiliated is Kiprusoff. For them to get back into this series at all, they need to start doing anything right.

Now that’s more like it! Alfredsson with two huge goals, a nice goal from our second line and even our depth guys chipped in one. We’re doing a good job limiting the Pens’ chances – they’re still getting scoring chances, but a team that talented is going to get some.

It’s unfortunate what happened to Eaves, but that’s hockey, I’m afraid. He had his head down and got smacked. I can’t believe that Colby Armstrong is crying crocodile tears to the media. This guy has handed out what, 3 or 4 concussions this season? Not to mention his blatant running of the goaltender? Don’t pretend that you’re not looking to hurt somebody when you’re on the ice.

Armstrong’s one of the dirtiest players in the NHL, but in an ironic twist, the hit on Eaves was clean.

He still deserves a good ass-kicking for his persistent goalie-running.

Schubert’s hit was terribly dirty, too.

Meanwhile, the Ducks have again beaten Minnesota, so I guess my picking the Wild as my Western dark horse wasn’t a good call.

As I said earlier, who’s going to score for Minnesota? Pronger and Neidermeyer and excellent at taking players like Gaborik and Demitra out of the game, and the Wild don’t have the offensive depth to make up for that.

That hit on Eaves was clean, but what I thought was ironic was that in the ensuing fight, Armstrong got, like, ten hits in before receiving any. If you go to stand up for a teammate, don’t get your ass beat.

If you can get it on TV (preferably in HD, of course), I highly encourage all SDMB hockey fans to watch the San Jose/Nashville game tonight at 7:30pm Pacific. It’s already a nasty series and this one should be an exiting game.

Armstrong didn’t fight. He had to have Talbot do his fighting for him.

I don’t think Armstrong is playing it up for the media… I mean his hits are hard, because he plays hard. hes never really giving cheep shots…the hits are good solid hits, hes playing his game and if someone gets seriously hurt from it i don’t think thats his intention. Theres a lot of adrenalin on that ice.

Thank you Brian Burke for not trading away Bryzgalov, who is out-Backstroming Backstrom.

You mean besides throwing body-checks on goalies?

Jeepers, Madden almost got the go ahead goal with 0.8 seconds left in the 2nd.

I’m sorry, but running into the goalie in the crease is a cheap shot every single time. Armstrong is an infamous goalie-runner, not just in this series, and he’s also known for going for the head, leaving his feet to go for the head, and hitting from behind. He’s an extremely dirty player, always has been since junior.

My team (Calgary) is sucking ass. Outshot by Detroit 51-15 in game two - what the hell is that? But, Yvon Labre came over to my place on Saturday, so that was kinda cool.

I’m watching my Sharks on DVR delay (I hate commercials), and I must say, they’re playing much better tonight. I love Mike Grier.

Check that. I love Nabby.

Somebody tell the Lightning that this is unacceptable.

How about talking to Brodeur and your vaunted defence? They’re being dominated by Lecavalier and St. Louis.

You think Eaves not playing tonight is enough for the Pengs to get back in the series? Even though its only 2-1, imo Pitt hasn’t been playing well at all and they need all the help they can get. The game is on Versus tonight at 7. I’m hoping this ends up being a good series, cause right now I think the Pengs are going downhill fast.

I know! We’ll fire the coach!

That’ll scare some life into…

I have no idea. That was the first non-Sharks game I’ve watched all season. I’ll see if I can watch tonight’s game, though.
