The 2010 Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Habs win! Series tied at 2. Lapierre said he’d score a goal after hitting that crossbar last game; he’s the one who tied the game up. Much thanks to Kris Letang for helping out on that third goal, the gesture is much appreciated!

Crap refereeing overall, though. Very frustrating to watch, especially in the first period.

Well the Wings have a three goal advantage in the series.

Let’s just hope they saved some for the next game. As Mickey Redmond said, they can score all the goals they want they’ve still only won one game. I’d actually feel a bit better if it had been a tighter game. A pasting like this is an aberration. One team showed up while the other did not. It certainly doesn’t represent a turning point in the series. If Detroit does it again, then you’ve got something.

I agree on this. I watched part of the first waiting for the Wings to kick off and it was just jaw droppingly bad.

Well Jimmy got to get a bit of confidence, and Naby got a bare-ass spanking from grandma in front of the nation, so I kind of like the blowout. Things can change next game of course, but the refs now have to keep a good eye on the action after the whistle, which will help the Wings immensely.

Ouch.

Silver lining:
I stood in line to buy Game 5 tickets at San Jose. They randomly draw a wristband number to be the start of the line, and I was two behind that number, out of ~150 wristbands. I got freaking awesome seats to the clinching game.

Nice to see the fourth line show up for the Habs last night, as Lapierre scored, and Tom Pyatt added a goal and an assist, the first playoff points of his career.

They’ve done a good job of keeping Sid & Geno from running wild, but could sure use some production from their top guys, particularly Pouliot & Andrei Kostitsyn.

Andrei is moping because Sergei is in the doghouse. You’d think he’d be used to it after, what, 8 months? Sergei has played his last game as a Hab, unless he changes attitudes dramatically!

As for Pouliot…I’m wondering whether his wrist is still hurting him. I can see how that would seriously affect his game! Either that, or we got what we paid for; I hope that’s not the case!

Andrei Markov travelled with the team to Pittsburgh, but is not expected to play. He’s there for moral support (and probably to avoid going insane having to watch a game from home!)

Sergei did not travel to Pittsburgh. He’s done.

More than 8 months now; I think Kostitsyn the Younger has been in the doghouse for about the last year and a half.

On a different note; I like Elliot Friedman (Hockey Night in Canada interviewer/feature narrator) but he just asked the same dumb question to two Penguins, Crosby & Bill Guerin. “Do you think Halak is in your heads?” Seriously, WTF kind of answer are you looking for?

Not nearly as painful as watching my Wings lose in 7 in the final at home last year. Not by a longshot. Though, I still need something to kick.

Go sharks!

I think the deciding factor was pavelski. His awesome performance forced detroit to put the pressure on him leaving marleau and big joe breathing room to cut their throats.

Great game.

WOO Sharks! Wings are out!

I nailed that guess. My others are longshots, though.

Too bad there won’t be a rubber match for the Pens and Wings. I was kind of hoping to hear more about how superior the Red Wings organization is, or how the refs had it in for the Wings.

It would be funny if Chicago makes it to the finals and then loses, so that Hossa is a back to back to back cup runner up for three different teams.

      • SHARKS WIN * * *

That was awesome. I’ve never been to a series-clinching playoff game. There’s nothing quite like high-fiving random strangers while making your way back to the car. People just keeping their hand up for passers-by to slap in the hallways. People standing on pillars outside the entrance. People driving by the throngs of people, honking and waving flags. Anybody with a palm was congratulated.

Right when they last cleared it, when the Red Wings were on a 6-on-4, the crowd really went nuts. I’ve never heard anything louder. Total bedlam.
It was totally worth the $318 I paid for the best seats I’ve ever had at a game. I won’t be speaking for a few days, due to screaming.

(Go Canucks.)

That’s what I’m hoping for, and to be honest he should be hoping for it too so he can get the failure hat trick. Be interesting to see if any team really wants him after that. I know Chicago has him signed until God returns to judge us all (and judging by the playoffs all around the league I know a bunch of zebras that’ll looking for an appeal.), but wouldn’t you want to trade him after something like that.

Anyways, congrats to the sharks. Great series. Wish you’d done it in seven like I predicted. And because the sun is out and the May snow ()is gone, I’m in a silver lining mood so I’ll say that at least I don’t have to stay up to watch any more ten o’clock start times.

Congrats to Gary. I’m at least a little glad the game went your way, especially because you were there. In Detroit, you have to participate in a riot when your team wins. Had back spasms for a week after flipping that police car. Welcome to the western conference finals

Hehehe – I personally think he’s poison.
If that happened, I’d laugh my freaking head off. Dude’s a complete tool. “I have a better chance of the cup here…blah blah blah”…oh snap!!!

That would be sweet.

Hello hentor, it only took you five pages this year. I have often pondered the Hossa curse myself. If the final if Chicago vs. Pittsburg my money will be on the Penguins. You have to lose the cup before you win the cup. Unless you are tampa, new jersey or colorado…

Ahem. That’s Pittsburgh. Thank you.

did I mispell pittsburgh? sorry
