Not sure if this is more appropriate for Elections or the Pit, so mods, feel free to move it.
I want to see the gnashing of the teeth, taste the sweet tears of dismay, and listen to the wailing of the sky-is-falling types. I’m most interested in reading about the plaintive cries of the extremists and the troglodytes- the anonymous hordes of the partisan blogs as well as the talking heads of cable news and talk radio- but if you want to say neener-neener to a fellow Doper, I suppose that’s ok here too.
So far every result is in line with Nate Silver’s prediction. We just don’t have very many actual results yet. But Florida looks just as close as Silver thought it would be.
So I’ll offer a “neener-neener” to the poll-deniers.
I don’t really have the energy or inclination for taunts, even if the opportunity presents itself. The past few months have been exhausting and more than a little soul-killing, and if Obama wins, some of my immediate family will be hard convinced that the End of Everything is imminent and disappointed when it doesn’t happen fast enough.
Some of my relatives are in the same boat. My uncle has spent almost $1,000 on freeze dried foods from Costco and bought about 5 guns to get ready for the Obamaclypse and seems offended that I think his behavior is goddamned ridiculous.
I can’t wait for the election to be over so that things can calm down a bit. The 24 hour broadcasts and constant barrage of, “The guy you disagree with may win the election AND DESTROY EVERYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT!” got old a while ago and I’m looking forward to news stories about people seeing the virgin Mary in pancakes or whatever banal stuff they can come up with instead. That kind of thing is annoying but it doesn’t usually drive people insane the way election coverage does.
I just don’t comprehend this behavior. What’s the rationale behind the Obamacalypse not coming about during the first term? I mean, why would you wait until the second term to destroy the nation?
I don’t want to rub anything in the faces of people who genuinely think Romney’s business experience would translate to the office of POTUS . (I don’t necessarily think so, but YMMV). The ones I want to sling my neener-neeners at are:
the ones voting purely on race, especially with the whole “he got into Harvard Law due to affirmative action!”
everybody dropping the “messiah” bomb. May they cease and desist.
Sure it is- Silver had Obama up by about 2- and the networks will call an exit poll margin of 2 as “too close to call”. He still could be wrong, of course, but there’s no indications in any state so far that he’s going to be wrong.
Just ignore the current totals at least until they’re over 50%- who knows which counties are counted first. At this very moment, Obama is “leading” in OH by over 10%. We know that he’s not going to win the state by that much.
So there’s no information that we have so far that says anything other than Silver’s prediction is strong. There’s still a lot more information to go, of course.
The only ones I will point and laugh at are the ones who kept insisting over and over and over that the polls were obviously wrong (because they disagreed with them), and kept coming up with the most outrageous reasons why.
"Just had a baby girl so I won’t be committing suicide. We have to look out for ourselves, our loved ones and each other now. "
WTF?
I mean, I know I was upset when Bush won the first election (I wasn’t in the country, so that wasn’t that bad) and then the second one (I was here, and, yes, I was irritated), but, come on…suicide?
