Now? They haven’t really moved past all the facts they played fast and lose with last month, or so far this month, or the last debate. Anyone who thinks either of these clowns has kept their hands clean hasn’t been paying enough attention. The best you can say is “well, he’s lied less” which is damning with faint praise.
Damn! I want a “That One” sign!
Tidbit from an online girlfriend whose FIL was at the debate:
I added “my friends” to my presidential debate drinking game (I thought I would be safe since McCain didn’t really use it in the first debate), so I am a little tipsy right now. Hopefully my thoughts on the debate make sense.
First off, Brokaw was a terrible moderator. I like the idea someone else mentioned that if you are going to be so anal about the time, go ahead and just switch off the mikes.
The questions indicated what I feel most Americans want, more details on both candidates policies. Instead we got the same rehash of general policies, and in some cases ignoring the questions pretty much altogether. I expect better from two people not governors of Alaska. This debate was a snoozefest as it was just a repeat of the first debate, in some cases even with the same lines.
I am really disappointed by both candidates answers to the question of how they would ask the American people to sacrifice. Both McCain and Obama seem unable to admit that our sinking economy is going to royally mess up their presidency. While I understand Obama is in a nice lead and he is pretty hesitant to do anything “shocking” at this point, I think McCain “straight talk express” would be smart to come out and admit the realities that we face. I honestly believe that if the next president simply is able to right our economy and nothing else (especially in a way to prevent this from happening again), you would have to consider it a successful presidency (of course that probably won’t get him re-elected).
And lastly, a big wtf to the people who couldn’t bother to memorize their own questions that they were going to give to the biggest audience their pretty little faces will ever see. Most of the questions were intelligent, but only one person actually seemed to be intelligent when asking his question.
One of the few moments that surprised me was the one where Obama insisted on a follow-up and then knocked McCain around for his various comments on Iran and North Korea. McCain’s reply was very defensive and barely budged the reaction meter. This is similar to Obama’s you-were-wrong lines about Iraq in the first debate. Obama has not been too aggressive with McCain, rightly so IMO, but he has made it count on the few occasions he has. I suspect these two moments when he pummelled McCain on core national security issues have helped build his stature as a potential commander-in-chief with undecided voters.
Merci. ![]()
No problem…it’s in my bookmarks :).
Don’t. It’d be considred pedantic if you did.
As for the debate, boring as heck. Yet Obama, unlike the bizarre moving, twitching and downright nasty, McCain, easily looked and responded like a US President should. About time too – been eight years since your last real one.
Boring works for The O-Bomb. He shows that he is not some exotic creature with a Klingon name. Being steady and normal is just the ticket.
Just woke up.
So who won?
Mmm… That one!
They need one for Michele that says That Girl.
Done! www.thatone08.com (how they registered a domain and put up a site in a few hours is… genius!

Oh god yes. I totally agree. That’s what McCain gets for interrupting. Obama could not stop smirking when he realized what McCain got himself into.
I wonder if Obama planned to say that before McCain interrupted, or if he switched gears after McCain’s gratitude. Either way it was the best moment of the debate.
Fox News, 11:50 pm PST
McCain 37%
Obama 63%
I missed tonight’s event, and just finished reading this thread. Thanks to all who participated. I can’t wait to watch the whole thing, and see some of this for myself.
Especially that punch that McCain threw!
I like how they referred to his father as “That One Sr.” LOL
And I want a t-shirt! ![]()
I’m not reading this entire thread.
I watched the debate in a bar with 6 other people in an atmosphere where I wanted to support Obama and yet be a cynical jackass and make comments to piss off the four liberal college chicks that were there.
I thought Obama did great on the domestic stuff but messed up on the foreign policy stuff. You can’t support unilateral invasions into Pakistan’s sovereign territory, whether Osama bin Laden is supposedly there or not. You come off as a candidate who is trying to sound “tough” in areas he shouldn’t be. You need to educate, not pander. The war against terrorism is a waste of American lives and dollars. Preach your plan to pull us out, not your plan to shift our forces. I don’t care if your message is poliically palatable, it’s not what your supporters want.
Obama has never said he would invade.
And if we ever know bin Laden is there, and if the Pakistani government won’t cooperate, the missiles are coming. Count on it. It doesn’t matter whether the President is Bush, Obama or McCain. If bin Laden gets located, bin Laden dies. Cooperation from Pakistan will be sought but not required.
Here’s hoping his Republican opponents will soon be referring to him as “That One in the White House” (with a tip of the hat to FDR).
