I’m in. I have an LJ, too, so I’ll go join there, too.
For those who are intersted I got into this but I decided that I would start on Dec 22. I ended up getting a couple of books for Xmas and had read three of them or so during that week. I figured that I wouldn’t want to lose those few books so I started early.
You have to understand that when summer roles around I will be traveling again so the time I will have to read will be really cut down. In the last 2 weeks though I have read 6 books and am one my 7th. I also have a couple of books that I started last year that I will not be counting. I have a livejournal but don’t really use it, I guess I will now and review the books I read.
Oooooo, oooo, I wanna play too!
I’ve already read 4 books this year, so anyone that would like to send me an LJ code (and quick explanation of how to use it) can use the email in my profile!
Thanx in advance!!!
I’ll do it. I’ve already read 3 books this year
Count me in as well, but I think I will pass on the live journal thing, it sounds like too much of a bother, with the codes and stuff.
50 books? Okay.
I’d like to do this, but I have 0 experience with live journals. I usually only read 25 or so books a year, but I think I’m up to the challenge.
I just sent singular1 and Leifsmama a code for LJ (thanks lucyshoe for donating extra codes to the cause!), and I have about 5 more if anyone else would like to join.
Feel free to email me at the address in my profile, and I’ll be happy to send you a code.
I’ve finished my first book, btw…I’m a bit behind schedule due to some homeowner crises the past few days, but I’m still committed!! How’s everyone getting along?
I accidentally started blathering on about this in the Book Club thread – I’ve got four books going right now, so my completion rate sucks. Ah well, I’ve still got 50+ weeks to get it together…
I really don’t understand how the livejournal thing works (it seems nothing like OpenDiary), but if anyone will donate me a code I could try to figure it out. My e-mail should be in my profile.
Anyway, I decided to only count books I started after the 1st of the year, so my completion count stands at… one.

This may seem like a dumb question, but is there a list of books to read, or do we pick our own?
If we pick our own, I’m in!
DarkWriter, there are no rules to the challenge. It’s just a goal that I set for myself that I invited others to join me on, since I think it’s fun to have people to chat about books with. The number 50 is completely arbitrary, and so is what you choose to read. Some people in the LiveJournal community have mentioned that they’re going to include audio books that they listen to on their commute, some people (like me) are trying to restrict themselves to only new books read, etc.
Feel free to join us, everyone who wants to give it a try is welcome.
For those of us that don’t have, or can’t get a LiveJournal diary, Deadjournal.com offers basically the same thing, but no code required. Perhaps we could set up a club on DJ as well and have an LJer go back on forth on the boards to keep us updated…?
Btw, I’d like to join… email is in profile
Thanks, Jadis. Sounds like fun, so I’m going to join up tonight.
Jadis – finally got around to posting over at LiveJournal – do you need to link back to me as a friend for my entry to show in the challenge thread? I’m registered there as twickster (no “47”). If I’m supposed to do the link – how?
(sorry to be such a Luddite…)
I’m in.
My first book was “The Stars My Destination” by Alfred Bester. Just finished it.
twickster: You should download the LJ client–it’s easier to post that way. In it, you can choose what journal to post in (your own or a community that you belong to). To show up in the community, you have to post to the community.
5 down so far… not sure what I’ll start today.
D’oh!
Thanks, Opal, that makes sense.
liirogue-
I just checked DeadJournal-they now have codes. So does ujournal, which was given as a free link on the DeadJournal site.
I was out with eye flu all last week (honest to god-my eyes were neon red and pasted together every morning for 3 days-I needed warm water just to open them! They were scary!), so I was late using the code Jadis sent. Hopefully she’ll generously send me another. I promise to check my email much more frequently! In the meantime, I guess I’ll try out the journal feature of my Outlook calendar-I don’t want to forget the ones I’ve already read.
I’m assuming we’ll be discussing the books at the journal site as well-is it like a message board? Do we talk to each other on that site? Are the journals accessible to all members? It sounds like a great book discussion group!
