The 50 Book Challenge - The Challengers List

I’ll join, it sounds like fun.

Actually, I’ve already read Catcher in the Rye and The Dark Half this year.

Hey, y’all. I could use a live journal code as well if anyone has one to spare.

E-mail furthur@dpc.net. Thanks!

Mrs. Furthur

I joined the LJ community for this today. First post going in now.

For those who don’t go to LJ, here’s my list so far:

Wild Card (I and II) by George R. R. Martin: A collaborative novel. The earth was infected by a ‘wild-card’ virus in 1946. The virus causes comic-book mutations in those it infects, some leading to super powers. It isn’t nearly as silly as it sounds. Good fun!

All Judgment Fled by James White: First contact with an alien craft orbiting beyond Mars. How do you talk to aliens when you can’t tell which are sentients, pets, or vermin? And then there are psychological problems, and hysteria at home. (Reread)

Black Lotus by Laura Joh Rowland. A detective working for the Shogun of Japan in the 17th century. Good historical atmosphere, good characters, and a good mystery.

P is for Peril by Sue Grafton: Yet another in her series about a hard-boiled female private eye.

So that makes five.

I don’t think I’ll worry about LJ, but I will set fifty books for the year as my goal, since I’m pretty sure that I read at least that many last year. Sor far this year, I’ve finished Assassin’s Apprentice and Royal Assassin, both by Robin Hobb, and I’m almost done with The Warrior’s Tale, by Allan Cole and Chris Bunch.

Can I join in the fun?

Me to. Since I’ve already got (love the proper English!) 5 books read this month, I’m kind of ahead of the game.

This year I’ve read Q is for Quarry by Sue Grafton, and two by Terry Pratchett: Hogfather and The Times. It will be cool to keep track of how many and what I read in a year . . . I’ve tried doing it in my journal, but have never been very successful. I’m looking forward to this!

Well, I’d join, but for me, the challenge would be holding myself down to 50. Let’s see…last week I read three books, and this week I’m on my second (I read less on the weeks I’m working).

I’ll take you all on! Mwahaha!

I want to join also! Please send me a livejournal code if anyone can. I finished one book, Ham on Rye by Bukowski and reading right now Crossroad of Twillight by Robert Jordan and Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson.

If one of y’all have a LJ code, please email to JohnT15@bellsouth.net

Danke.

I’ll join, but I’m behind the 8 ball already because my first book was “The Crimson Petal and the White” which pretty much sucked up all of January.

but right now I’m bogged down in * Girls lean back everywhere : the law of obscenity and the assault on genius * by Edward De Grazia.

It is a quite detailed account of selected books/other literary works that have been involved in obscenity trials in the US and/or England.

Dreiser, Lawrence and Joyce (among others) are represented by extensive quotes from not only from their works , but often their own words.

It’s 814 pages and I’m about 1/3 through… does that count
I will try to stubborn it out - but the book’s due back at the Library next Monday.

:frowning: No code.
