The 81st Annual Academy Awards

Oh god, I’d forgotten they were remaking Fame.

Congrats to Slumdog Millionaire!

JAI HO!

I’m going to watch it again tonight (for the fourth time)!

It was cool to see all the other actors from Slumdog who aren’t named Dev Patel get pushed up there at the end, especially the kids.

Nice simulpost, Iteki.

Like the closing credits with “coming attractions”. Meryl’s playing Julia Child???

RE: the 2009 coming attractions montage – a movie starring John Travolta and Robin Williams? Yeah, I’ll be missing that one twice.

Ok, half hours sleep then hit the shower and head for work. Thanks for the company all, and enjoy yer day off yojimbo you sleeveen!

He’s said in the past that he prefers people not to refer to him as “Sir” but as just Anthony (or Tony) Hopkins.

Looks like I won’t be seeing a lot of movies this year either. :stuck_out_tongue: But Watchmen is out in two weeks and my girlfriend really wants to see The Soloist (I’m very iffy on the movie, but at least the lead actors are very good) - so we’ll see how things develop from there.

I wonder what Bai Ling is going to wear to the afterparties.

Robin

re the coming attractions montage - who was singing “Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat”? Anybody?

Sounded like Beck.

Have a good one.

I’m going to The Bodies Exhibition on my day off so I’m expecting to have a good one.

Dang, I thought this was the most entertaining Oscar telecast in years. I think the main reason was that I didn’t start watching until about an hour in, so I wasn’t comatose as usual by the time the big awards came up. It helps that there were some highly worthy films and performances that got awards this year. Loved seeing that army of Slumdog cast and crew up there.

On the downside, I’d rather they go back to playing the whole nominated songs, and that thing with a circle of previous winners telling the best actors/actresses how wonderful they were was just weird.

Thanks to the SDMB real-time regiment for making a highly entertaining thread, as always.

Yeah it was a lot of fun watching the Oscars along with the SDMB folks. I"ve enjoyed that for several years now.
Nite everyone - see you next year.

Yeah, but he’s won every other major award this season. I wonder how on earth he lost the Oscar? Perhaps you are right about the Penn/Prop 8 stuff.

Yeah, it’s the gay agenda.

It’s Academy members getting another chance to vote against Prop. 8.

10:30, on the dot. We’re on the phone, I’m talking and after a while “Laura?.. Laura?.. LAURA!!!”

“uh, what?”

“Love you, babe. Talk to you in the morning.”

“… nite.”

I hope you don’t honestly believe Academy Award recipients are picked based on merit.
