Dang! It’s sitting on my table in a Netflix envelope, so I guess I’ll watch it for the Penelope Cruz stuff. But I really put it in the queue for Johanssen boobies and good sex scenes.
Huzzah for WALL-E!
Yeah, but Slumdog was Best “Adapted” Screenplay. I think if they went head-to-head, Slumdog would have won, hands down (as they will for Best Movie).
WALL-E: Well that was no surprise at all and well deserved. I loved Jack Black’s joke about better on Pixar.
I liked JB’s crack about betting his Dreamworks money on Pixar - then his shout of triumph when Pixar won (again) for Wall-E. Well-deserved of course.
And for those not checking IMDB, Slumdog Millionaire won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Best animated short = La Maison en Petit … uh, something. My pool pick!
BTW, I really love the crystal curtain surrounding the stage. I bet that is amazing in person.
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto. FTW!!!
I think that the speech for best animated short will be the best speech we hear all night.
Ok, the animated short is my favourite speech of the night, no contest.
I wonder if his wife will do it for him again tonight?
So now they are doing whole swathes of the show in advance, not just the technicals?
All I can say is that when you make a film called The Duchess, it’s a guarantee you’ll be winning best costumes…
Does Keira Knightly actually do movies that are not costume dramas? I see she might be Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady in 2010.
Am I the only one finding this show to be mind-numbingly boring? And what was up with the music playing while Daniel Craig and Sarah Jessica Parker were talking?
In the romance montage, it was the WALL-E one that made me tear up.
Quite the opposite for me, actually. This is the best-put-together Oscarcast I’ve watched. Ganis is making good on his promise for the awards to be exciting and different this year.
I tuned out entirely between the start of Craig&Parker until now. I didn’t even realise that it was live. Stiller is sucking.
Really? I think the Ben Stiller bit has been pretty funny. Although I imagine it’s not all that amusing if you didn’t see Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman a week or two ago.
I mostly felt sorry for Natalie Portman having to play straight guy to Stiller’s schtick.
I did laugh, however, at the winning cinematographer’s hair.
Does presentation of subtitles fall under cinematography, or is that in editing? Slumdog deserves some kind of recognition for actually trying to do something original with subtitles.
Man, first Tina, now Natalie. Why do they always have to mess with their makeup and hair on shows like this? They look better before they get dolled up…
I’m really liking the show.
There are bits that aren’t working but overall it’s a good show.
At least they are finally trying to make The Oscars different as opposed to just the biggest award ceremony.
Stiller nailed it IMO.
