The 8th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Did they win something for having done so? Or are you arguing that this fact makes the Browns a good team?

Or is that some kind of moral victory?

I think his point is that as bad as they may be, they are still an NFL football team, any given Sunday, and all that…

Because one can tell so much about a city by the way it looks from the interstate.

Tell me, what exactly differentiated the view of Cleveland from the interstate from the view of Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Columbus, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, etc etc. ? Your opinion about Cleveland sounds about as accurate as Ex-Governor Palin’s self-proclaimed foreign policy expertise based on Alaska’s proximity to Russia.

And please don’t misconstrue. Cleveland the city has its problems - you may have seen about how much of the county administration is currently under federal indictment for corruption - and the Browns have sucked since 1989. But at least they won their last meeting with the Stillers. And at least Cleveland’s won eight (8) league championships, nine if one counts the Cleveland Rams of 1945. And while our quarterbacks currently suck, at least none of them were suspended for being (censored) suspected rapists.

Well, their river did catch fire…

Anyway, I like this shirt better: http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/sgenetti77/Rothlisberger.jpg

Apparently the primary problem with cleveland is that they sell all their panties pre twisted.

I brought barely losing to the Super Bowl champs as a hypothetical where it might make sense to declare a moral victory (not that I would). You said I was living in a fantasy world if I thought the Browns could stay within 3 points of the Saints. I said they’ve beaten the last two super bowl champs they’ve faced despite the Browns being a bad team.

Umm . . . This isn’t the Steelers thread, is it?

Oh my good lord. This all started with a fucking joke that SenorBeef just can’t get because he never personally said anything about moral victories, and zamboniracer appears to believe that I really meant that I could see Cleveland from I-80. Never mind and fucking drop it. No more jokes about Cleveland!!!

Why don’t you guys drop it and move on? Agree to disagree?

I’m with Beef…here’s hoping the Browns not only finish ahead of the Squeelers in the division standings, but that they possibly play a part in ruining your playoff chances.

Sweeeeeet…

Why don’t you wait until the Bengals win a game before worrying about other teams that are ahead of you? The Browns finishing ahead of the Steelers? Maybe if the entire lineup dies en masse.

On the injury front it sounds like Scott will replace Max Starks this week and that Starks has a low ankle sprain not the high ankle sprain they’ve been reporting. In other potentially good news, Byron Leftwich has been throwing the ball with out putting weight on the front knee and might be ready to start practising later this week. I never expected to see any sign of him this soon. Dixon did OK but I’d much rather have Leftwich in there. He also had my favourite quote so far this season when he looked in the bright side of his injury, “The good thing is, I won’t get any slower.”

I have to say, the Steelers finishing 4th in the AFC North seems pretty far fetched. The Browns are terrible, the Bengals looked awful against the Pats, and the Steelers are only one year removed from being Super Bowl champs and appear to once again have one of the best if not THE best defense in the league. Not seeing it.

Plus, history isn’t exactly on the side of that either…the Steelers have finished last in the division exactly ONCE (1988) in the last 40 years. Not seeing it this year either. Prediction: first or second…the Browns are terrible, and the Bengals will not be as good as everyone thinks. Just like the Steelers essentially never have two bad seasons in a row, it seems the Bengals never have two good seasons in a row.

They will be playing the @##!@ Ravens game locally. I’ll either have to go to a bar or just catch the updates online. :frowning:

One can dare to dream…

Nobody, and I mean nobody, has the Steelers winning today. Frankly neither do I but not because of Chris Johnson. He may or may not get 100 yds on the ground but I think our Achille’s heel will be Dennis Dixon if the Titans play a soft zone against him. The pundits are predicting a steady diet of blitzes but that seems like it would benefit Dixon. postgameheroes did a good analysis which showed Dixon makes good reads against the blitz (though his passes were inaccurate) but struggles against three-man rushes where all the passing lanes are hard to read. This was the strategy the Patriots used to devastating effect against Roethlisberger to end his rookie season. If the Titans do that today we’re doomed. I really believe Leftwich will be the starter next week despite being released this week so they could add D-line depth.

Speaking of D-line depth, Casey Hampton is out today. They’ll miss him but Chris Hoke has been very solid in backup. They’ve only lost once with him as a starter vs. 14 wins so I don’t think he’s much of a liability. Having both starting OTs out is a much bigger deal. Hopefully, Scott will be an adequate replacement on the left side. I thought Flozell Adams looked bad last week against the pass, very bad. The only reason it didn’t show up more was because they weren’t applying much pressure on that side. Dude holds even more than Marvel Smith did. I don’t feel a lot of confidence in him. He looks good on running plays though.

Well, I was wrong last week, but yep, I’m nervous. Our D looked much better last week than I was expecting, but I think our offense was pretty weak.

They’re not showing it on my channels.

There is a bar not too far from me, but I don’t usually like to go there. Still, I think I may end up there today.

I couldn’t resist. Last night I ordered the NFL package from my cable provider. $30 a month but I’ll get all the games plus it allows me to watch hockey games from work through their website.

And that’s saying something.

Lucky for you, the NFL doesn’t seem to call holding on the Steelers when they might for the same play on other teams.

I’m not falling for it.

OK, maybe just a bit. I’m on record as saying Joe Thomas is the best I’ve seen at playing Harrison without holding and should be an example for other LTs, so there! :stuck_out_tongue:
