The 8th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Mince, I’m not understanding your post at all… the Steelers are the lesser team because if the Bears had less offense, then we’d be upset? That we’d play the Bears instead of the Packers?

See the correction. But in case you still don’t understand:

The Steelers should be heavily favored. The Packers “bearly” beat a much lesser team who had absolutely no offense.

Ummm…I mentioned “Stairway to Seven” to my wife when I read this, and she has now started a personal crusade to use that phrase wherever and whenever possible…
sorry

You know, it would almost be worth having the Steelers win if only to get rid of that “Sixburgh” inanity.

Just don’t tell her we’re Knockin’ on Seven’s Door. The problem with journalism nowadays is that they go for these super easy groaners. There’s no need to make these puns, yet they do it all the time. It’s rather annoying, and with seven and heaven rhyming, I just have this feeling we’re in for it. Heck, if the Steelers win this one, I guarantee some paper will lead the sports page (or the front page in Pittsburgh) with “Seventh Heaven.”

Just wait for it. Still, I’ll be so excited should we win this game, I won’t really care.

Boy Howdie! I agree with you here.

But to replace it with Stairway to Seven? God. Just win the damn trophy and leave the stupid labels alone…

As a lifetime Steelers fan who went to graduate school in Texas at the pinnacle of the Aikman Cowboys era (which coincided with Cowher’s Steelers almost-good-enough era), I am relishing the thought of the whole of Steeler nation rolling into Dallas for a good weeklong party of Iron City fuelled excess.

This was supposed to be Jerry Jones’ opportunity to showcase his own vision of Texan extravagance and excess. The fact that the Steelers are involved seems like a perfect karmic kick in the nuts. The poetic justice of it almost brings a tear to my eye.

I’m with you.

My wife is a Cowboy fan, manly because of a crush on Aikman back in the day. I have to live with catcalls of “O’Donnell!! O’Donnell!!” at the beginning of each season.

This trip to Jerryland is a great thing, especially since they haven’t been in the playoffs themselves since 1996. I’d love it if the Steelers could win the 1st Superbowl in that stadium.

Ever imagine if the Steelers had Marino during those Cowher years?

Didn’t we have a talk about this before?

That name is not ever to be spoken, written, whatever. My wife, also a Cowboys fan, doesn’t dare say that name in front of me anymore. Catcalls, nothing, She simply knows better.

Tell your wife to shut the hell up and look at the scoreboard. What’s that, you say? She’s your wife and you can’t talk to her like that? Bullshit. It’s football, and if she’s not with you she’s against you. Stake out your position and man up.

:dubious:

She says she’s saving this one for tomorrow.

At least the’ye better than “One for the thumb”

Try me. It’s cold outside, you do realize that, don’t you?

How impressive is it that Peter King of SI predicted this Super Bowl back in September?

Not very. Two of the best teams. I’d have been impressed had he picked Cleveland and Detroit and more impressed had those teams actually made it.

Well, unfortunately for him, he didn’t predict your make-believe Super Bowl. He did however predict the actual real life Super Bowl contestants even though Pittsburgh was missing their QB for the first four games. If it were that easy one of the myriad other expert analysts would have predicted it as well.

I’ll have a Texas-sized helping of Schadenfreude Casserole and an extra jumbo 'Rn City. Be sure to give yourself a good tip, Mr. Jones is paying for it after all.

I hate to get all neurotically pedantic on you, but:

Perhaps you meant the Super Bowl?

I’d say it’s a pretty good prediction…he’s the only major sportswriter who even gave the Steelers the time of day this year. I remember being very surprised that no one was giving the Steelers credit…they were only a year removed from being the champs. But King was the only one who thought highly of us. The Packers were a trendy pick, though.

Not sure. That’s pretty gay, too!

I’m not bitter about my team. I just don’t like the Steelers.

Quite!

I will. Maybe the Bengals will get a new offensive coordinator. Hopefully they get a new owner.

Oh. I know exactly why you’re bitter. It’s hard to be bitter about your preferred team when they are a complete non-entity. Even the Bengals don’t care about the Bengals.

Whatever the source of your bitter tears, they remain delicious.
