The 8th Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

Lets not get into Seahawk fan sour grapes territory.

If James Harrison had laid a shoulder into the ball and causes a fumble we’d be praising his great play, not stating that it was lucky. Clay Matthews made a great play.

The Steelers failed in 3 chances to prevent Rodgers from throwing a touchdown pass. If they hold any of those to field goals they have a good chance of winning. Was the pick 6 luck? Every football game has elements of luck, so what? The Packers made the plays that counted and the Steelers didn’t.

There’s no doubt that the Packers BEAT the Steelers.

I didn’t think the Seahawk fans were eating sour grapes. They had a legitimate gripe. That personal foul penalty called against Hasselbeck was the single worst call I’ve ever seen in an NFL game.

It’s true that turnovers are “lucky” in a sense, but in the same sense every single play in a game requires luck. James Jones dropped a pass that hit him in the arms, which was all but sure to go 70 yards for a score. That was pretty lucky as far as the Steelers were concerned.

I didn’t see more one or two questionable calls or non-calls by the refs, so I discount that completely. Some games involve more luck than others. This game involved alot of luck. There were many (more than expected or usual) plays that were not executed and resulted in completely unintended outcomes - from both sides on both offense and defense. That tends to occur more in good matchups.

Green bay beat Pittsburgh in a very close game that can mostly be attributed to Pit’s failure to execute. I believe Pittsburgh was and still is the better team and the Pack got lucky. If they had to lose to someone, the Packers would be my 1st choice. There’s been more than one year when I did not believe the two best teams were in there. This was not one of them.

Sorry, but that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

But isn’t the ability to execute one of the factors that determine the better team? And Pitts failure to execute is not happenning in a black box, there is another team on the field that is helping create a lot of the failure.

I’d expect nothing less.

It wasn’t a very close game, either. The Packers led from start to finish, and by 7 points or more for most of the game.

Aww, poor Nadir. Such a sob story. But nevertheless, you’ve swayed me. Using my authority, I officially award the Pittsburgh Steelers the Official “We should have won but were unlucky” Trophy. Congratulations!

Nah, you’re allowed to. In fact, it’s pretty much a requirement since I started the thread to talk trash. Have at it.

Three days later and it still stings, but at least they got outplayed by a good, maybe even great, team. That eases the pain somewhat.

If you insist. It’s been tough keeping this in.

The Packers whooped your ass real good. The only reason it was a game at all was because they lost 40% of our secondary for over a half of the game and our WR’s kept dropping passes. Those don’t happen and the score would’ve been 45-10. The Packers took your best player, the Defensive Player of the Year for fucks sake, and made him look like a Pop Warner player. Your team was outcoached on both sides of the ball, with McCarthy abusing your weak ass pass defense and Capers containing your best weapons. And I won’t even get started on your … mentally and morally challenged QB playing like crap until he got to face our 4th and 5th stringers. We’ll take the victory, your pride and respect, and the Lombardi trophy, and bring them back to the real Titletown, Green Bay, Wisconsin. Give us a ring when you get to double digit championships.

Whew, that was fun. Sure a bit simplistic, pompous, and over the top, but fun. Thanks for that.

Enjoy the offseason. I know I will.

And I thus refute:

The Packers’ injuries are a part of the game, just like Pittsburgh’s entire offensive line and Troy Polamalu’s Achilles injury. And in spite of having Aaron Rodgers and a receiving corps that used up Pittsburgh’s secondary the Packers still won by less than a touchdown. And you know you were scared shitless when Ben got the ball back with 2 minutes left because you know that when the chips are down 9 times out of 10 he gets the job done.

Wow. One title in 15 years. Call me back when you win another one, say in 2026.

Ah, that was cathartic. Congratulations again, though.

Ha. “You only beat us by not that much! TAKE THAT!”

Yes, the injuries are part of the game. Yet they were big, and obviously meant the Packers weren’t playing at full strength. It was the only reason you were even in it at the end, so it’s perfectly reasonable to use that to rub it in.

What the fuck do you know? The Browns only make the Super Bowl in Madden or Tecmo.

Therefore I’m not allowed to have an opinion on whether or not injuries affect the outcome of games, or what?

This “people that happen to root for good teams obviously know a lot about football and people who root for bad teams don’t, therefore I win any arguments” logic all of you idiots use constantly wore thin quite a few years ago.

No, it just felt good to say.

And the injuries did make it easier for Pittsburgh to try to come back, admittedly, but the Steelers were moving the ball before the injuries, they just weren’t getting points.

shrug That’s why they play the game.

You responded. Refuting? Not so much.

Let me clean this part up for you with a little snip here and there.

One second …

Ah, here we go:

Ahhhh, there it is.

Yeah that 22 passer rating in Super Bowl 40 had me shaking in my boots. But, as I said in the other thread, what made the victory so much sweeter was the dashed expectation of the Steelers and her fans. Seeing Hines Ward talking about how he thought they had it won, while he’s sitting in the losers’ locker room was precious. And the cherry on top was just how bad your QB looked on that last drive. The confusion, the missed throws, the panic, it was beautiful to behold.

Thanks for the chance to engage in some meatball smack talk. Good luck next year. Outside of the Patriots, there’s no team I’d rather have the Packers beat in the Super Bowl.

I take the Browns to the Super Bowl twice a day, every day.

Hey Airman, when are you going to start the “Steelers March to the Picket Line” thread?

Nah, the Steelers are a blue-collar team, dontchaknow, so if the season is cancelled, they can all just go get jobs at the local steel mills.

There are no local steel mills. The name is little more than a legacy anymore. But you knew that, you were trying to be clever.

If the season is cancelled there will be no thread. However, if things look promising around the scheduled opening I will be starting one.

I found the donchaknow tripped up the cleverness. Y’know, considering the phrase is from Minnesota.
