The ADA act and foreign Airlines

My wife has a tendency to suffer from severe cellulitis. We are booked for a 12 hr light on El Al 777-200/200ER. We are both people of size and my wife will have a wheelchair assist to the plane but she can move on her own once we are on the plane.

She was told by someone that there are some seats with more legroom than others on this model plane and that under the ADA act she can request them for no change in fare.

My questions are

  1. Does the ADA cover an international flight that originates or ends in the US
  2. Are there seats that do have more leg room that are not bulkhead
  3. If so what should we request?

I’m not sure how to answer your specific questions but you should be aware that the ADA does not apply to airlines. The appropriate legislation is another law, ACAA, the Air Carrier Access Act.

You could take a look at SeatGuru’s seating map to figure out how the various seats differ and whether or not there would be any seats particularly better or worse for your wife. Note that El Al appears to have two types of seating configurations for the Boeing 777-200ER; you can search SeatGuru by flight number to figure out which type you’ll be flying on.
