The aftersmell of cheap perfume

Well, now I’m wondering about that distinctive aftersmell of cheap perfume. I can’t describe it, but I’m sure you know what I mean? What causes that?

Hit ‘reply’ too soon… :smack:

It’s the smell that isn’t immediately recognizable, but rather is apparent after a couple hours of wearing—I’m guessing, anyway, because I’ve noticed this smell as early as midday. It’s also oddly ubitquitous across the entire catalogue of “impressions”.

My first guess is cheap ingredients.

About your location: Are you Lester the Nightfly?

This is just off the top of my head but don’t cheap perfumes use an alcohol base? Could be that.

I was dining, er, eating in a Taco Belch one day and two guys were sitting in a booth 3 booths away from me. One or both had marinated himself with some colognic essence (that I had never smelled before) that was not a pleasant odor and that nearly overpowered me. Fortunately it was not one of the numerous ones that affect my allergies. But I could smell it on my jacket for a week later. Yukkk.

Nah, he’s on midnight-to-five. I have a smooth jazz show from nine-to-three. I’ll usually be able to sneak some Brubeck (and the odd Coltrane track) in to keep my sanity, and no-one knows the difference.

I’ve done a few nights at the board with Lester, though. He’d like you to believe he’s all alone in some tight booth, but that’s actually a corner where there used to be a sunken shelf; the actual desk (and much of the room) looks like Imus’s, and there are usually two others and a go-fer in there overnight. I’ll see him in the day, sometimes, as he picks up his check; he’ll usually make small talk, as well as a snarky comment on what’s playing. I’ll tell him you said hi!

Umm, Joe? I gotta ask. What’s up with you and smells?

It is a recent phenomenon, aided in full by the burning of a “Christmas Tree” scented candle. Upon extinguishing, the room soon took on a mild scent reminiscent of the common thift-store -smell, which then gently morphed into a slight impression of that common aftersmell of cheap perfume. Smells trigger my thought-processes, sometimes, and thought-processes very often lead to burning questions, which lately have led to thread ideas. So, as the smells shifted, so did my yearn to find out the answers to these triggered questions.

I shan’t buy this type of candle again.
