I remember a quote from RNC Chair Reince Priebus from just a few weeks ago, about the current GOP troubles, “I’m not pouring Bailey’s on my cereal. I’m not sitting here trying to find a Johnnie Walker.”
I think there’s a good chance he’s doing EXACTLY those 2 things.
I enjoy Twitter, especially in regards to politics, and I take a special joy in tweeting Paul Ryan asking him if he’s enjoying his day, giving him helpful hints, stuff like that.
It’s silly, childish, but so fun and well-deserved.
I think Rhythmdvl is largely right. The GOP establishment clearly loathes Trump but they have to walk the line because if by some crazy event (like Sanders’ supporters voting for Trump) he actually wins they want to try to have some influence over him. If they burn bridges now they have no hope of influence in the future.
It’s pragmatic and, really, the right thing to do.
Trump is like Palin with money. And there is another thing to keep in mind: Virtually all Democrats and more than just a few Republicans know that the establishment is going for the bullshit.
Might be the pragmatic thing to do, but right…? Well, different strokes…
I do agree that Ryan and the ‘mainstream’ Republicans will continue the support and may even sell themselves on the story that if Trump somehow wins, he will be so over his head that he’ll ‘beg’ them to run the country for him. I don’t know how much they believe it, but it’s a fantasy they may believe because they have nothing else.
I wonder if Ryan cusses out Boehner every time Trump opens his mouth.
I love how Trump has told the Republican leadership, including Paul Ryan, to “just please be quiet”. If not, then he threatens he’ll “just do it by myself.”
Oh, and he’s doubled down on his earlier statement about surveillance on mosques.
but if I were republican I would do 1 of two things right now…
Part A - the two step plan
Get our nominee as the VP - maybe Ryan, maybe Boner, maybe Romney
Start impeachment proceedings on Jan 21
or
Part B - change the convention rules to say that at least 50% of sitting Republican reprensentatives must support the nominee and then deny him the nomination
or
Part C -
He has an actual, real life on TV nervous breakdown and someone is drafted as doing it for the good of the country earning the sympathy and self sacrifice vote
