You know what? I live in Alberta too and we’re not all beer drinking, pickup driving, homophobic, “hey my daddy married his sister”, gun toting, racist, wannabe separatists. Despite the fact that this is a stronghold for the Alliance there are people like me who agree that Stockwell Day is a total fuckwit. I think he might have gotten a vote from Bernse but not from yours truly.

Just because we have a great economy and low unemployment doesn’t mean we’re better than anyone. We’re just lucky that we’re sitting on a shitload of oil. One of the drawbacks is that oil seems to draw rednecks like flies are drawn to shit. They’re everywhere, rednecks that is. I like living here despite this, there are tons of great people and none of us like being grouped with the aforementioned rednecks.
Bernse, you have every right to express your opinion but that is all it is. Since my opinion of this matter differs from yours I can only conclude that your statement that Albertans don’t care is bullshit. Maybe it’s true where you’re from but not here. How does how much you pay in taxes have anything to do with this discussion anyways? Does that mean that your opinion means more than mine? I think fucking not.
Some of us do care and if we haven’t seen the end of this it’s because this has a great number of people really pissed off at Mr. Day and the lawyers involved in this case.
Mr. Goddard was clearly slandered by Mr. Day, his reputation was destroyed and he states that he has often wished he was dead. He receives $60,000 in reparation while the lawyers receive $720,000 and Stockwell Day gets off with paying diddly, squat, and nada. What the fuck is wrong with this picture?
The lawyers in this case need to be taken out back and beaten until they hand some of this money over to the man who deserves it. Day needs to be taken out back and beaten for being a hypocritical fuckwit. Hell, who needs a reason to see someone break out a six pack of whup-ass on Stockwell Day? I don’t.
I’m an Albertan and I’m pissed. Anyone hearing about this should be pissed off no matter where they are from.
I agree with all of the above. The reason I brought up the Tax issue (and while it may not have been very important in hindsight) is that I have a large amount of money taken off my cheque every month, and it gets pissed away on shit like this. Do I care about it? No. Does anyone that I talk to at the office care about it? Other than roll their eyes, no. Par for the course.
I agree Mr. Day was a total moron lacking and decent judgement skills when this all came to pass, I am not denying that. I just don’t like a “holier than though” attitude that this would not happen to anyone else. Bullshit, it would happen to someone on the left wing just as easy. Do you think Glen Clark wouldn’t take a government handout to pay his bills if its offered? Its all over the political arena, not just “the right wing”.
