I can’t even begin to express the anger I have that someone this bigoted and prejudiced would be elected to our Parliament to have a say in our law making process. It is frightening that an MP believes in a huge conspiracy theory and that every right fought for by gays should be rescinded. And that he publicly derided another MP for being gay and wanting to be able to marry.
Do things like freedom, equality and rights mean nothing to this idiot? Isn’t this 21st Century enlightened Canada, not the Stone Age?
I respect this guy’s right to have a differing opinion, but this level of intolerance is staggering. Not to mention sheer rectal cranial immersion.
Thank Og he’s not my riding’s MP and I hope he gets recalled post haste.
Well, the linked article does say this homophobic politician is from the US. So it looks like we’ve got enough here to spare a few for the neighbors. Share and enjoy…
Let’s see… Former Baptist Preacher. Alliance party member. That right there tells me that nobody should be surprised at his views. However, as Mr. Trudeau said while tabling the bill to decriminalize homosexuality in 1967 (it was passed two years later): “There’s no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation”. I completely agree, and I hope that Mr. Spencer’s constituents will agree when it’s re-election time.
Read the post, fuckwit. Haj was mocking Matt_MCL for supposedly insinuating that the tolerance of homophobic politicians is a chiefly American problem. Cowgirl was pointing out that not only was the politician American, but he was not tolerated.
Right. She blamed us for him, when he is their elected official. Why else would she make a point of mentioning that he was from the US?
We didn’t elect him. His views, as bizarre as they are, couldn’t have been hidden when he was elected. But somehow the “American” part of it becomes important.
Ah, more American bashing. So refreshing and lacking in ignorance. How the fuck is it relevant where this turd was born? Canadians elected him, not Americans. It is to their credit that there was enough outcry to get him to resign but it was Canadians who put him there in the first place.
By the way, my State (California) protects the rights of homosexuals in the work place. My city (Santa Barbara) twice elected an openly gay man to the city council. He’d still be in office if he hadn’t of tragically come down with ALS.
Actually it sounds from the OP link that his views were not known publicly before this incident.
Please read Hajario’s post, then cowgirl’s post, noting that Matt_MCL is Canadian.
“She blamed us for him”? She calls him a homophobic American dipshit. He’s clearly American, and he’s clearly homophobic, and AFAIAC, he’s clearly a dipshit. What are you being blamed for, Mr. Patriot?
She mentioned that he is from the US in response to Hajario’s post. Do you REALLY not realize that, or are you just being a pain in the ass?
Haj, it is relevant where that turd was born because you took a dig at Matt_MCL for being, say, “anti American homophobe”, not to be confused with being an anti-American homophobe. Surely you see the irony in his being American after your jab?
Yes, Canadians did put him in office, but I get the impression that his stance on homosexuals was pretty hidden up to now.
It’s also interesting to note that his riding is Regina… which I was going to say had a large lesbian population, but never mind, I’m thinking of Winnipeg.
Actually, I do appreciate the irony but my point still stands. There have been a number of arrogant posts by Canadians over the last several months implying that such a thing could never happen in Canada. It turns out that it did. Of course it’s way more of a problem down here and it’s one of the reasons that I cannot vote Republican (the reasons why I cannot vote Democratic are a different thread.)
hajario, I find it really kind of odd that you would attribute to me the idea that there is no homophobia in Canada. I’m not in politics/testified before a Commons committee/holding vigils for murdered Queer people/working in queer sensitivity training in high schools for nothing, you know.
I’m certainly on record as saying that I think the situation for Queers is better, on the whole, in Canada than the US, which I think is accurate, especially on the judicial level. I mean please girlfriend: we were getting gay marriage when you guys were still working on sodomy laws.
But better != perfect, obviously, and I certainly agree that there is still major homophobia and a great deal further to do on this side of the border. As witness.
(Oh, and I am actually not surprised by this noodge. We all knew the Alliance was thinking it. This guy just had the poor judgment to open up his pie-hole about it to the press.)
