G&H took the funicular to the pitstop, while F&K ran up the stairs. That might have been the difference.

There was a clear difference in the shadows between F&K and G&H arriving. Plus, as mentioned earlier, not only did Gus & Hera reach the Roadblock after Freddy & Kendra left, the place had been cleaned & sterilized of all the puke. Clearly, Gus & Hera were last by at least a couple of hours.

Anybody have a map of Budapest? The only thing I can think of is that the Roadblock was on the same side of the Danube as the water polo site – which would’ve been VERY bad route planning, if true! But I still think they just plain lied about the 6th place/last place thing.

Not necessary to read the AR site – they show G&H crossing the river. Then they show Freddy & Kendra finishing water polo, with the graphic “Currently in last place”.

I guess G&H had bad luck finding a taxi.

I also wonder if the river landing wasn’t further away from the Pit Stop than the water polo place.

I agree with Gangster Octopus that the episode sucked.*
In fact, this whole season has been pretty sucky. I realized the other night while watching that I barely care who wins. I know whom I’m rooting against, but there’s no one whom I’m particularly rooting for.
Sad, because past seasons had really made this my most favorite show.

*with the exception of funny moments like that poor musician almost barfing himself at VomitFest 2004, and the Most! Enthusiastic! Greeter! Ever!

It’s possible, but this über-leg might have been planned that way from the start. The producers are notorious for adding unexpected twists and turns, as we all know. I do believe they had to quickly reschedule an entire leg once (due to a bombing in Turkey, I think.) What’s interesting is, if TAR6 had aired as originally scheduled (starting 9/25/04) this two-parter would have aired on Oct. 30th and Nov. 6th – not exactly “Holiday Lite” as far as ratings are concerned. Well, maybe they would have made it a 2-hour episode instead…

Which would have made it on the first week of November Sweeps…great timing for a two parter.

i watched it in slo-mo just now. You can’t really tell what happpened. Bolo was in front looking away when the gate went up. He took off and I find it hard to believe he pulled it down because he would have hit everyone if he had.

It went up about 1/3 of the way, then came down. Then went up again all the way. It didn’t go all the way up, not sure who pulled it down, if anyone. They had a camera behind that may have seen what happened, but that shot wasn’t in the version of the show we saw. They show Hera grabbing her head and her staggering in. I don’t think any of the competitors did it.

I watched it in slo-mo too. I don’t think anyone pulled it down, it’s just an old piece of machinery that bounces as it goes up, and bounces again when it hits the top.

If anything, the producers are liable for putting the racers in a dangerous situation.

I read a couple interviews with Gus & Hera and they think at worst, someone was holding the gate up as they were passing under it, and then let go.

It’s also interesting in the interviews, both Gus & Hera say Jonathan & Victoria are a nice, comfortable couple. Hera said she was surprised the way Jonathan has been portrayed on TV, since Victoria gives as good as she gets.
