The Amazing Race 10 - Ep. 2: "Can Horses Smell Fear?"

I’ve been wondering that myself. The season the rule was put into effect, Phil reminded us at every Road Block. I haven’t heard him mention it in any season since. It makes more sense than just about any other rule they’ve got, and I can’t believe they’d abolish it.

David and Mary with the “we’ve never met gay people” were hilarious. Kudos to Dave for not looking embarrassed or angry that people have the audacity to be gay in his vicinity. I know it’s giving into the stereotype, but I expected him to be violently homophobic. If he is, he’s hiding it pretty well, and that deserves a kudo or two, as well. I like that Mary’s not taking his crap, but as was mentioned upthread, I haven’t actually seen him give her any crap, so maybe she needs to dial it back a little.

I would punch Peter in the face if he were that “supportive” of me. Gah.

Hear! Hear! He’s an annoying creep!

With the Family Edition the rule was apparently suspended because of the four-person teams and the sometimes two-person Roadblocks. I’m pretty sure I remember hearing it mentioned in the last season and I know I remember some of the teams talking about how many Roadblocks each member had performed. I wanna say Ray and Yolanda talked about it regarding the amusement park ride Road Block.

And “We’ve never been around gay people…we like 'em!” should so totally have been the episode title.

The Chip-and-Colin Memorial Roadblock Limit Rule was definitely in effect last season – several racers confirmed it. I’m assuming it’s a permanent rules change unless we hear otherwise since it really was fixing a bad problem with the show.

I, however, always think of it as the Bowling Moms Roadblock Rule, since they were the team that was screwed by its absence on their season.

I recall the producers saying that they will no longer have challenges that involve eating tremendous amounts of food, like a pound of caviar, an entire ostrich egg, the aformentioned four pounds of meat. I don’t know whether the penalty for quitting task has been changed.

Oh, well thank goodness they only had to eat a modest portion of EYEBALLS. I’m 100% with the “This is TAR, not Fear Factor” people.

Someone mentioned it in this episode at the Roadblock. They said, “You do it; it’s your turn,” so I’m guessing it’s still in effect.
I think some teams are just trading off each time.

It wouldn’t have been much of a challenge if they had been asked to eat moo shoo pork, would it? In terms of gross Chinese food they could have eaten, fish eyes were pretty mild.

Didn’t Mary also say they never knew any Asian people? That’s pretty sheltered! I am not really taken with this couple, although they can be amusing. I don’t have a real favorite yet.

Yup - no Asians either. Considering that their hometown is 3.5 hours from Lexington, KY it’s pretty damned surprising that they’ve ever known any black people.

They’ve been eating local foods that Americans consider disgusting since the first season. I never had any objection to eating local delicacies that might offend the delicate sensitivities of the racers as long as it wasn’t massive quantities. They went off the rails with the caviar and it’s taken till now to get back to what I consider is the right kind of eating challenge.

They’ll never top the live baby octopi in TAR4, though.

Isn’t that one of those “Deep Thoughts” by Jack Handey?
