The Amazing Race 12/21

I loved the way the editors deliberately contrasted Gus and Hera with *** and Victoria** as they drove along in their cars.
Gus: Wow, look at that! This is a beautiful place.
Hera: Really amazing. This is so great!
(cut to…)
J*nathon: Read the map! Hurry up! You’re going to make us lose! Shut up!
Victoria: (crying) Stop yelling at me!
(repeat several times)

I pity Gus on the train ride…

Jonathan: yammeryammeryammmeryammmercheatyammermy ticketsyammeryammeryammeryammcheatyammerhow did youyammeryammer

I also felt bad for Victoria when the teams had to write their names on the white-board for the sling-shot bungee thing, and Jonathan wrote just HIS name, and not hers. She even pointed it out to him, saying, “Jonathan Lastname ? What about me? I’m part of the team, too!”
He got all snotty and wiped off his last name and wrote in her name.
What a dick.

In that case, Gus should simply take off his shirt and use it to plug up the *.

Never underestimate the power of Shirtless Gus!

ROFL. I said that exact thing to my wife last night, complete with the mystery accent.

Actually, I didn’t see him write after he wiped. Looks like he just wiped his last name and walked away in a huff.

(bolding mine)

Their train leaves at 7:23 AM. Big difference.

Huge difference! I must have been talking during the part where the ticket agent said “seven twenty…” and only heard the “three” part.

That changes things for sure.

Didn’t the ticket person say the train arrives in Budapest at 7:23 AM? Minor difference, but still.

Compare Gus with the other team who tried the catapult - their melon flew straight up in the air while the Nutty Prof’s landed just 10 feet away from the crate from a distance of 150 feet - and think back to earlier episodes where he nailed the targets first time, and I think you’ll see that there was a calibration problem with the equipment. Gus knew that, but he has been trained to solve problems, not talk. Careless talk costs lives. And he knew he had the only T-shirt capable of carrying 54 cannonballs.

Regarding Checkpoint Charlie and the map, you’ve got to keep up appearances. And I believe the tunnel’s been blocked up. Gus would know.

I think the real problem was that if Gus used the tunnel he would have to kill the cameraman and soundman.

Live like Gus.

What about his “daughter”? Where does “Hera” fit into all this? And what the heck is with this being named after a Greek goddess anyway?

Could it be that she’s really the brains behind the operation? Or, considering she hardly speaks, shows little or no emotion, and has quite the perfect little body, could it be that she’s not entirely human?

Did anyone else feel that the “She’s my daughter - it’s only natural that I should care about her safety” spiel from Gus when Hera was catapulted (trebucheted?) into space was just a bit too pat?

The mask is beginning to show its cracks.

Is it just me or is Hera, the one non-model/actress type on this show, also the hottest? 'Cause she has some serious hot-vibe going!

Yowza!

Hera does make a fine Agent 99 to pair with Gus and (more seriously) I think the past two episodes have really shown her doing a great job. Gus is more chatty and playful so he gets more camera time but Hera (assuming she is his daughter and not part of the CIA’s daring plan to infiltrate the race as a front for a covert operation) definitely is a solid racer…

You know, Fenris, she really grows on you, doesn’t she? I was originally rooting for the Utah girls - and still have a soft spot for them - and was never enamoured of Hayden. However, I got to admit that Kendra did certain things to me. But now I realise that I was being so superficial - again. Now when I look at her, she just looks hard and sculpted. Okay - and beddable too. Hera, though, has depth and is quite the cutie.

Did any other of you guys feel quite happy that all the gals wanted to do the human catapult thing? Would have terrified me. Just as well Don and Mary Jean had already packed their bags - I think the stress might have done for them. Still, got to be a bit disappointed that Gus didn’t do the task. What would he have done with his hat? Would they need to have weighted him down as well?

According to CBS’s web site next week’s show is indeed a clip show (though they don’t call it that), but it will have new video. And if TV Guide’s website is right in its description, it’s not gonna make help *'s reputation any.

I also thought Gus should have done that RoadBlock. If you figure that there are going to be some more challenges that come up that require speed, he needs to try and do the ones that don’t really require that. What if the last Roadblock is something like the cliff climb? Gus would be at a sore disadvantage in that one if he’s the only one left that can do it.

Shirtless Gus would find a way.

If he’s prepared.
