The Amazing Race 2/15 "Don't Let a Cheese Hit Me"

That was hilarious! The gentleman and I were laughing like maniacs during the cheese incident. I also gave my best friend, who’s Swiss, a heads up about the show and I think she was still laughing when she called me afterwards. The season’s off to a good start!

My mother and I watched it together. Well, she denied that she was watching tv when my Dad passed by–and frankly I was weaving in ends on a set of fingerless gloves for the first half of the episode-- but we both got some chuckles out of the hapless would be cheese carriers. I had to feel a little sorry for some of the teams–and wonder at how poorly the cheese carrier thingies held together.

Mom had also forgotte how things work on Amazing Race since whatever season she had watched last, and so thought it was unfair that the last team would be eliminated for taking too long with the cheese when they didn’t get to start as soon as the others.

Once I explained it again, she was ok with it.

I’m almost sorry the Bumpkins are still in. I am not looking forward to even one more week of her whinging.
I also half expected the Stewardesses to eliminate themself by premature conniving.

Nutzorz. I looked at the TV guide and didn’t see TAR. Now I’ll have to do the major streaming-thing off of CBS, and their streamer doesn’t cache well on my system.

The cheese made me laugh nearly as hard as the marching. Nearly, but not quite.

Okay, if you could just drop the cheese and then go pick it up, why didn’t everyone just do that? Send one guy to the top, roll them down, the other team member dodges, fetches and stacks.

What would be the ideal footwear for The Amazing Race? I always figured it would be best to wear a high-top sneaker, or very light hiking boots. I wonder if that would have helped on the hill.

Has there ever been a leg as undecided as this one? I was all set to give the Stews kudos for ditching one train and finding a faster one to Locarno. Then it looked like the Bumpkins were toast until they outsmarted everyone on the cheese task. Three teams were within sprinting distance for first, and two for last. The first one to find the yodelers was deaf. This is anyone’s Race.

I was thinking being deaf on the race would be a severe disadvantage, but then I realized that you wouldn’t be able to hear the incessant “baby, c’mon, baby, baby, baby!” from the other teams and you might be able to have some inner peace.

Yes, but finding this pit stop would have been a bitch if both team members were deaf, even if they both read lips and were vocally communicative.

Yeah, that cheese task was one of the most awesome roadblocks ever! Freaking hilarious!
Looks like a pretty good group of racers, based on this leg.

The eliminated team were obviously in trouble because of their attitude from the get-go.

The hillbilly couple will be hindered physically by Linda, but good on Steven for working the cheese hill better than anyone else.

The blonde flight attendants never gave up, and that saved their asses by seconds. They made their big mistake back at the train station. Perseverence is a good quality to have on this race, maybe they’ll improve next week.

Gay Dad seems pretty sharp, but he’s going to slow his team down physically.

All of the top three teams were pretty solid and fun to watch. I hope they continue to do well.

Lots of eye candy for the guys this season! I think Tammy will be my TAR crush this time. She’s hot and smart!

But the former NFL cheerleaders might make me change my mind. Two are better than one!

There’s got to be a Find the Yodelers app for the iPhone.

Oh, wait, they can’t take any electronics. Never mind.

It looked like both team members had to stay somewhat together, even if only one of them was doing the actual carrying. So they would both have to go up the hill, and you couldn’t leave somebody below to chase down runaway cheese.

I hope that cheese gets a REAL good washing before anyone eats it, considering some of the racers said the hillside had a lot of poo on it.

Very true.

Did Victor shove Mark (or Michael) twice? Once at a cluebox and once at the cheese clue dude?

That was Tammy (Victor’s sister) at the cluebox, but yes, it was Victor at the cheese guy. I don’t like them too much…there’s something about them that’s off-putting. I don’t know if it’s that they started scheming way too early, or if they just give off this superior air.

Wait a second! It seems like one of the dating couples is actually well adjusted and supportive.

Is that allowed?

I think it’s both. Although to be fair, they’re the first brother/sister team on TAR that I don’t think is having sex with each other.

And good on the deaf kid and his mom for coming in first. I went to the same college as he did (although I graduated while he was still in high school) and a lot of the deaf students are entitled little shits that are absolutely helpless around the hearing students (which is like 80-85% of the school).

The extremely muddled travel at all points in the leg definitely spiced things up. There were too many people worried about leaving first but not arriving first; you’d think they had never watched the race before.

Packing for the race is always going to be a debatable topic. I would want shoes comfortable for walking in, not too heavy, and with a solid gripping tread. And I definitely would not take more than one pair of shoes.

Oh, and definitely no cattle costume feet.

Don’t be silly, of course it isn’t. But they can only let one dating couple be obnoxious and whiny at a time otherwise the viewers couldn’t tell them apart.

FWIW, TAR Asia had a team where both racers were deaf. They did pretty well too.

Hey, “The Amazing Race” is STILL in crappy lo-def? You’d think a show that features such beautiful scenery would finally move into this century. “Survivor” made the switch last season and even the freakin’ “Simpsons” is now in HD.

This episode was awesome! I thought I was going to pee my pants watching all that cheese rolling, and all the racers falling. Those traditional carriers sucked - most of them were kindling by the time the teams were finished. I’m also amazed at how much speed a wheel of cheese can pick up - when one crashed into a tree, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see the tree fall.

One good thing about having a deaf racer - we’re guaranteed that at least one person won’t try using Spanish to talk to someone in Russia or India.

So far I’m liking the stunt guys and the gay father/son pair (especially since I realized the son had been in an episode of Pushing Daisies). I’m not sure how far the father/son team will get though. The mother/son team did very well too - they earned their 1st place finish.

And I agree with you randwill - I was really hoping this season would be in HD.

Are HD cameras bulkier or heavier than normal TV cameras? Because while that may be doable for Survivor, which is pretty static (they don’t really GO anywhere once they’re on the island(s)), it may not be so doable for a show where you’re basically carrying the camera on your back/shoulder through 40-odd countries.

Every time I see that guy’s face I think of him reminiscing about “Chuck and Buck, suck and fuck” in his uber-creepy way.
