The Amazing Race 28x01: "I Should've Been a Boy Scout"

What I couldn’t figure out is why NONE of the men took off their shirts and used them as carry bags?? Even better if they’d still had the sarongs from a few minutes earlier.

But even with the t shirts you’d have been able to carry a few extra nuts with a whole lot less fumbling about.

And as for Dana and the chickens… since it looked like the couples always waited to cross together, why not have one partner catch a chicken and hand it off to the other to temporarily hold while you catch the second?

Really, no one seemed to be thinking at all at that challenge.

My favorites are Burnie and Ashley and Tyler and Korey.

Tyler and Korey seem like they could be annoying, with all the silliness and jokes, but they are such good sports and obviously having such a great time that the endless punning becomes funny.

Burnie and Ashley are smart, consistent and no-drama.

I started out irked by Sherri and Cole, but have come to respect them. She is MUCH less of a bimbo than I initially thought. For that matter, so is he.

Dana and Matt: please get eliminated next.

Fun fact: So far in the history of the show, every team with a member named “Tyler” has won The Amazing Race:

S9: BJ & Tyler
S10: Tyler & James
S26: Laura & Tyler

And from Australia S1: Tyler & Nathan

I’m comfortable with anyone except Dana winning. I’m surprised they’ve lasted as long as they have.

There was a stack of woven palm baskets/chicken carriers that the camera kept panning back to. Not one person noticed them or thought “hey, I can use these to carry the chickens/coconuts!”. :smack:Also, chickens can be carried four at once if you carry them by their legs upside-down (farm kid, designated chicken-catcher). They are also quite calm when carried that way.

Every time they do a challenge there is a ton of documentation the racers get that we never see. Given the fact that none of them seem to be unobservant, I suspect that they were directed to not use any containers to help them carry the coconuts.

He was as annoying as all get out in the first few episodes, and I seriously didn’t think they’d last more than four episodes. That they’ve stuck around is partly luck, partly some unexpected ability (honestly more of the former than the latter), but they’re better than they were.

Smart use of the double U turn this week–has anyone else ever blocked another use of it like that? I can’t recall off hand, but I don’t think so.

Backing Matt and Dana to go home next, barring some spectacular good luck on their side.

Almost entirely luck. They’ve now finished two different episodes in last place but were saved both times by NELs. (Well, one was technically a “continue racing,” not a NEL, but same difference.)

So far they’ve finished:

Leg 1: 9th of 11
Leg 2: 8th of 11
Leg 3: 6th of 10
Leg 4: 7th of 9
Leg 5: 7th of 8
Leg 6: dead last
Leg 7: 5th of 7
Leg 8: dead last
Leg 9: 3rd of 6
Leg 10: 4th of 5

I count a grand total two legs (6th of 10 and 3rd of 6) where they didn’t completely suck, and four times they finished either last or second to last.

Plus, while mom is a decent competitor, the son is a big, sniveling bag of wimpy suckitude.

Mom’s pretty sucky too. Remember how long she was turning the oil filter the wrong way? Every team but one passed her, and two of them even HELPED her.

On that one task, maybe. But on many other tasks she has performed better than her “mom” label would imply. I think she did several tasks in the mountains that Cole was too afraid to do. She’s performing above expectations by far.

Someone did a couple of seasons ago, but I think they did it by accident as they were in/near last and U-Turned someone in front of them thinking they were behind.

I thought the filter was just really hard to get off. Didn’t someone have to give her a filter wrench to get it off? I don’t think she’s been that bad overall. She could be a lot worse.

Someone gave her a filter wrench and she was using it in the wrong direction–tightening instead of loosening. That was pretty bad–but aside from that, she’s acquitted herself pretty well. They’re highly unlikely to win–I think that’ll be either Tyler and Corey or Burnie and Ashley–and yeah, they’re still in it because they got lucky on two non-elim legs, but that one moment isn’t representative of how they’ve done overall.

Exactly this.

It’s been a long time since I was surprised by an elimination on this show. The way the episode was cut, Burnie and Ashley got to the convention center first, but got lost finding the proper stairway. The way all the teams were still at the mat by the time Team Rooster Teeth got there, it does appear to have been a close thing.

Sheri continues to surprise, by taking to that unicycle thing with much greater ease than Cole. Tyler and Corey have suddenly gotten a villain edit, by needlessly lying to other teams. Dana has never gotten a good edit. So I guess I’m going to jump on the Sheri & Cole bandwagon. They’ve never been in first place but, as they say, you only need to be in first the one time.

It’s interesting they suddenly gave Corey and Tyler the villain edit–they’ve been the good guys all the way through, until now.

I’m sad to see Burnie and Ashley go–they’ve been reasonably consistent, but seems like the choice to switch from it was a bad one, and then they got lost on the terrace. There’s an interview with Elise Doganieri–they spent 40 minutes on unicycles and lost out at the mat by only a few minutes. If they’d switched earlier, or gone straight to the art challenge, they’d have stayed in it.

I’m getting a strong “Beekmans” vibe from Sheri and Cole. Coming in consistently last or almost last, yet manage to squeak into the Final Three. Can they win it all like the goat farmers did a few years back?

I’ve never been crazy about Tyler and Corey but appreciate that they’ve been running a good race. But yeah they really seemed like a couple of jackholes in this leg. So, you get all buddy-buddy with Burnie and Ashley early in the leg, but they don’t catch onto your stupid lie in the airport about where the clues are, so you get pissed off at them and spend the rest of the leg trying to get them eliminated?

Finale thoughts:

Well that was uneventful. Even the extra 10-20 minutes added by needing to get a new taxi didn’t put a dent in the Dancers’ lead, since the other teams screwed up on the boat challenge and had bad taxi luck. They oughta really not start the final leg off with a “teams can only complete one at a time” challenge.

Are we spoiler-boxing? I know there’s a simple way to do that, but I can’t find it right now.

[scroll down]

Not a terrible finale, but not very exciting, either. Matt grabbed the hanging clue on the first try, Sherri got it on the second try, Tyler on the third try, and that’s the order the three teams finished in.

I’m guessing that the producers expected more of a hangup on the final task. But all three Race-savvy teams had memorized the hashtags and the order of the cities, so they all breezed through it in roughly the same amount of time.
Oops. That didn’t work.

Yeah, the 2 physical challenges were good challenges, but ultimately no real drama. But that’s still better than it coming down to spelling city names, which I was worried about.

Overall I was fine with the result, but the leg design was terrible. That first roadblock was stupid and eliminated all competitiveness in the leg.

Watching Sherri and Cole not come in last again was pretty neat.
