Here’s an article from Entertainment Weekly about Colin and Christie’s amazing transformation.
Disappointed to see Team Fun go, but can’t say they didn’t deserve it. Getting lost is one thing, it happens, but not checking whether the eggs were broken was really dumb.
Not sure who I’ll be rooting for in the finale. All four are a bit annoying in some way, ironically the Big Brother team is the least annoying to me. Colin/Christie and Tyler/Korey definitely seem more overall competent than the other two teams, though.
Bret finally finds those coins: Bret LaBelle on Instagram: "I found them! Finally!! @theamazingrace_cbs @officialsurvivor_cbs @chammons81 @dbunkley32 #amazingrace #teambromance #amazingraceseason31 #republicofcroatia #treasure"
Too bad Team Bromance were eliminated before they had to ride a tandem bike. That would have been a sight to see.
I’m sorry to see Team Fun elimimated. Seems like they’re fated to always go around this leg of the race. They have fun until killer fatigue catches up to them, then they don’t have fun no more.
Of the four remaining teams, I’d say the Afghanimals are probably the weakest. They keep getting lost or making silly mistakes, like going out into the lake before they had their third boat and then going the wrong way down a one way canal.
Victor & Nicole broke a fundamental rule: Don’t be the only team to choose a task when there are so few teams left. It’s impressive they managed to survive anyway.
For Team Fun, in their previous season some people didn’t like them because they felt they (or at least she) wasn’t a very nice person but hid it with a fake outward personna, and this episode I saw what they were talking about. “I want to smash this egg in your face!” Really? Buh-bye.
I thought Team Fun was still remarkably composed considering the enormity of their mistake. Imagine the meltdown the Reilly Sisters would have had.
I was somewhat shocked when the locals called the Afghanimals “idiots” – you don’t often see that kind of hostility. Pointing and laughing is much more common.
I knew Team Fun was done when they didn’t check their eggs and it had been pointed out that the farmer was checking them when Nichole and Victor got there.
The local guy called Tyler and Korey idiots not the Afghanimals (though with all their screwups, someone might have and I missed it). Tyler kept his cool and said he didn’t think he was an idiot. It looked like most folks on the canals knew what was going on so I was surprised when the guy said that.
Should have this set up to post every episode.
SPOILERS FOR FINALE
It’s funny how much I grew to root for Nicole & Victor since I wasn’t a fan of either of them at all on their previous shows. I felt bad for them when the other three teams worked together against them, but that ended up being moot. What killed them was switching off the rowing challenge. One of their tries they looked like they were getting the hang of it for a second, but then they gave up. Seemed pretty clear they were going to be eliminated the moment they decided to switch.
Poor Afghanimals, losing badly because of attention to detail. The most predictable 3rd place finish ever, but at least they overcame the 11th leg curse.
Colin & Christie make a great team, solid winner, no complaints. I found both of them really annoyed me during the final leg at different points, but not so much that I minded them winning in the end. First in the cab, when Christie started dressing down the cabbie, I was thinking “Shut the fuck up, Christie! Are you insane?!” I thought Colin showed impressive restraint during her little tantrum about being talked over.
But then on the drum challenge I kept thinking “Shut the fuck up, Colin, and listen to Christie!” She showed impressive restraint trying to get him to stop ignoring her while he was throwing a mansplaining tantrum.
So in the end, good on both of them for their restraint, which was more impressive to me than their tantrums annoyed me.
EDIT: I also loved how supportive Colin was after Christie finally finished the codebreaking challenge. Granted they were in a helicopter so they didn’t have to stress about directions or traffic or anything so it was a “freebie” in terms of reaching zen, but still, it was sweet.
The was the most predictably epic collapse ever. Leo’s general strategy seems to be “I’m sure I’m right, so even though I’m being told that I’m wrong, I’m just going to do the same thing over and over again.”
I would have loved to have seen more of the Afghanimals try to assemble that drum kit while “Seven Nation Army” was blasting at them at 100 decibels. Pretty good finale with some great tasks, both in London and Detroit. I was rooting for Colin and Christie all the way. Old school TAR represent!
What exactly was Leo doing wrong? It looked like he was spinning in the correct direction…where else would you stop, if not on the first number of the combination?
I thought the Seven Nation Army challenge was wonderfully imaginative. They take their usual “assemble this thing perfectly” task, and added pressure. And cool music.
He wasn’t stopping on any particular number, much less the correct one. He read the instructions to spin the dial at least five times, so he just spun it wildly a while and didn’t care where it stopped. The camera kept pointing out that you had to spin it at least five times and stop on the first number.
How could he not see the cameraman highlighting the directions like that, even emphasizing the words he’s missing? ![]()
From what he said at the end, it sounds like he thought the “first number” meant the first number on the dial, not the first number in the combo. Although I’m curious as to how he preceded to the next step which presumably said the “second number.”
Also, the first few times he did it, the final step was to spin the big wheel until it stops. He was just spinning the dial instead. He probably figured that out watching everyone else.
Which makes sense if you’d never worked a combination lock before. I guess there are some people in the world who haven’t. ![]()
Found an interview where he says that A) He hadn’t, and B) the reason why he did the roadblock was that they assumed there would be a memory challenge roadblock and wanted to save Jamal for that.
Didn’t they have a rule about the members having to do at least roughly half the roadblocks each? It seems to me Christie really didn’t do all that many.
According to this they each did 6:
Huh. Okay, I guess maybe I’m biased by the times they definitely showed her being carried by Colin, like on the skulls and the tandem bike.
My buddy was part of the Seven Nation Army jam. He says they were there all day and toward the end he decided he never wanted to play that tune again.
I still think it rocks. And I see a trip to Third Man Records in my near future.
mmm
And the rowing. She just set in the boat and let Colin do the work. Yeah, I guess it’s still teamwork if one of the team does absolutely nothing so the task can be successfully completed, but that annoyed me. I was ok with any team winning until that so I was disappointed that they did win.
