There were so many little things in this episode that made me feel queasy, I’m wondering if 26 seasons were all I could take. The blubbering all over the place, creepy Team P-FlAG v3.0, the news anchor shtick, the street dancers who come across as painfully dim, the wholly unnecessary titillation factor of making the women working on a puzzle do it in bikinis, the return of Creepy Pandering Phil. Ugh.
I’m going to give it another couple of weeks, especially now that the most loathsome team is gone, (btw, has a team ever had Phil come off the mat in episode one before?) but it just doesn’t feel promising. When did this show go around the bend?
Not doubting you at all, but how do you know this? Just wondering if it’s common knowledge that I seem to have missed or what. Funnily enough, Team TMZ, being celebrity gossips, could probably tell us.
I forgot about Rachel and all of her blubbering goodness. Maybe it’s something about the wearing o’ the green that makes one a weepy mess.
I feel like Gay Son has a lot more issues with his mom than only how she reacted to his coming out. There seems to be a lot simmering below the surface there. Other kids got dessert. I got puzzles. I bet there’s an absent dad and some childhood trauma drama thrown in there as their time on this season unfolds. More tears to come, for sure.
Oh, and team We’re Doctors so We’re Smart really annoyed me as well. “Our Medical School training didn’t involve puzzles.” No, but hopefully it involved critical thinking and problem solving. He has a really pinchy face, too.
I plan to keep watching. It’s a relief not to have a theme or gimmick this season. I’m not sure who I’m going to root for yet, but the most interesting dynamic is for sure the mother-son team. During their introductory bit, I couldn’t tell whether the look on her face was guilt and regret, or whether it was actually her still having a problem. Either way, IMO older women who trowel on that much makeup seem to have… issues.
