The Amazing Race - Season 27 starts Friday 9/25

For anyone here that is still watching…

At least we are back to a “normal” race this time around, as far as I can tell. No “all-stars”, no blind dating, just a plain old Race with the usual mix of teams (older couple, dating/engaged couple, mother/son, friends/coworkers, etc). Let’s hope there are some decent challenges this season.

I can’t wait. I hope there are some challenges that require more brain work than physical labor, but if not, I will enjoy it anyway.

I am not an adventurous eater, so anything more than a plain hot dog seems exotic, but I will be interested to see what the racers have to eat this time.

17 minutes into the season, and I hate them all.

Okay, not all, but it’s not looking good.

Ditto

None of the teams were like-able to me.

So there is a Team Paparazzi, Team TMZ and Team NewsTeam on the race.

Since this hasn’t aired on the west coast yet.
Not any more.
If those news anchors keep doing that anchory shtick, they’re going to be on my “kill” list.

Ditto.

I overall liked this episode, though Sobby McCrying Team Green guy weirded me out a little. Gay Son and mom aren’t my favorites but I doubt they’ll be in it long.

The TMZ girls seemed fun. Sorry to see them go first..

The mother/son team seems a little too close. Kind of creepy.

The Express Pass rules for this season look interesting.

My wife and I were discussing what happens to teams after they are Phil-liminated. She thinks they go home and wait until the final leg when they get everyone back together. I assumed they were sequestered in a hotel somewhere close to the location of the final leg until the end of the race so that family, friends, etc. do not get an early scoop on the race results. She thought that would be too expensive. I said they probably get a deal through Travelocity.

Is this ever mentioned anywhere? Where do teams go once they’ve been eliminated?

Eliminated teams are sequestered

CBS website used to show videos from the Elimination Station but I don’t think they do it anymore.

Good God! I think there was more crying in this episode than in any other previous season. Not just a single previous episode, but any entire previous season had less crying than this one episode. I hope Green Guy has gotten it out of his system or else the Green Team will be the ones I want to kill.

In the intros they were one of the few teams I could tolerate. Not great racing from them so far though.

Did anyone else think that winning the bicycle boat race was maybe not the way to go? Being the only team on a flight is risky. It turned out not to hurt them really, but it easily could have.

Could they have gotten their cabbie to call the hang gliding place before driving all the way up there? Why even go for the Fast Forward, another risk they didn’t need to take. Although, I wonder if this means the Race is going back to having a Fast Forward on every leg.

And finally, after the helicopter ride they were broke, even had to haggle with the cab driver to take them to the beach. Then after the volleyball we saw a shot of them in a car (presumably another taxi) on the way to the Pit Stop. I wonder how they paid for that.

There was a season with Brendan and Rachel from Big Brother. Rachel shed more tears in a single scene than we got this entire episode.

I’m definitely rooting for the Cheerleaders, and found it so very satisfying that they beat out the snarky nerds on a puzzle challenge, but oh man they must have gotten the kindest edit in the history of edits. How cunty do you have to be for your cab driver to throw you out of the cab?

I’m glad to have a normal, non-gimmicky cast, but I agree that none of the teams really look that fun right now. Right now I suppose I’m cheering for the track stars simply by process of elimination. The cousins don’t seem so bad either, though I’m dreading how much the “our dwarfism isn’t a disability!” will get shoved down our throats by the producers. The rest are all varying degrees of annoying or creepy.

I do like the rule change they’ve made to the Express Pass… though I wonder, when they say they must use it before the end of leg 5, is that just a time limit (lose it after leg 5) or they MUST use it no matter what (and hand it over to another team for the next leg?) I’m hoping the latter.

I like the detour here - athletic ability vs puzzle solving. No gimmes there (such as a task that is easy skill-wise but just takes up time). Of course, the volleyball challenge was set up in such a way that you wonder if the feet-only team would take pity and let the racers win. That slide puzzle looked pretty hard, too, and I’m usually pretty good at slide puzzles - but it seemed pretty difficult to tell which piece had to go where (even with the solution right there on the street).

I’m finding the dwarf cousins oddly hot, really. Mother and gay son do have that Norman Bates vibe, kind of.

Philiminated teams are also set loose towards the end to run through airports and stuff to give false clues as to who has been eliminated.

Enjoyed this episode but Phil seems to still have some residual creepiness left over from the matchmaking season as he pimped out the greeter to each team.

Yeah, this ep was the crying game, I’ll tell you what

Don’t be surprised if that isn’t something they’ll need to remember on the final lap.

You know, I managed to block off that memory until now. Thanks for reminding me. :dubious:

But Rachel was just one contestant. In this episode, we had Green Guy crying all the way to Copacabana, the Cheerleaders and the Gossip Girls crying while solving the puzzle, and Lord knows who else. Enough with the crying already.
