I assume a certain amount of stimulant abuse, which could also contribute to medical incidents.
UNVERIFIED last I saw, but I saw a tweet that they were trying to confirm that one of the men fell on his taser and shocked himself into cardiac arrest.
I guess it’s possible but if so what a lame-ass coup plan.
Gett together a bunch of amateur lowlifes who are largely unarmed and rush the capitol. Great idea! Although we are taking about Trump so maybe.
I did click the link. I also refused to either subscribe or turn off my ad blocker just so I could read one article.
Lindsey has his head so far up Trump’s ass he has to breathe through Trump’s ears.
I meant that Trump would be removed, then Pence would resign.
That would put Biden at #48
If we go for order 25, the vice president can take over after it is clear that the president is unable or unwilling to perform his duties. Now, the president then has to declare or show that he is capable again. IIUC, it could take days before congress must be alerted and they reply with approval or disapproval to the first step.
If that is so, by the time Biden takes over, Biden will be still #46 since the vice president taking over for a few days does not mean that Pence is president for those few days, only that the president’s condition needs to be evaluated while the vice president calls the shots.
To me, the most sickening thing is that 121 congresspersons voted to end democracy in the US. 121!!! Astounding!!
I honestly think they should all move to North Korea, and never come back. They’d obviously be happier in a dictatorship, and failed (barely) to create one here.
It was lame-assed, but
(a) it was incited by the President
(b) circumstantial evidence strongly suggests that there was collusion among law enforcement / federal security services to enable it
Should we just wait until they get a less lame-assed plan?
Trump is going to be gone one way or another, I’d very much like to know more about (b). People are talking about double standards vs BLM, but I think there’s a good chance it’s more sinister than that.
Chao secretary of transportation has resigned. No info if she has resigned as McConnell’s wife.
Cross posting from the Pit (I posted there because the Jan 6th thread was locked. I’ve edited the post for clarity).
The woman who was shot was apparently shot by final-defense agent who had a congress person in their direct aegis (either SS or reportedly a plainclothes officer assigned to body-guard detail). Link incoming–it’s not all that graphic, it focuses on the agent’s hands/gun as it fires and you see the woman fall out of the window to the ground. Still NSFL . Link is to Twitter and is censored unless you click the “view” button.
Not graphic description:
The agents are recorded from the outside of a doorway through smashed glass. Visible clearly is a jumble of furniture as a make-shift barricade on the agent side of the door. They are protecting congresspeople on the barricaded side (as per reports).
IT IS CLEAR THIS IS A HARD BOUNDARY AND WARNINGS WERE GIVEN, both by the agent and by some of the more level-headed rioters. (From another more graphic video: When the agent pulls out the gun as the provocateurs are smashing the glass, they yell “GUN!” and all back off except for the woman).
Police officers are working their way up the stairs on the rioter’s side of the door. The woman pushes her body through the barricade via a broken window and you see the agent take an angled shot nearly parallel to the door at the point of entry. I believe if it were a through-and-through the bullet would be in the wall on the barricade side of the doorway. Point being, they did not fire INTO the crowd.
She falls back (or is pulled) out of the window onto the ground. The uniformed SERT cops had advanced up the steps and secure the scene (ID themselves and ID the agent who fired the shot) then immediately start first aid on the victim.
The agents behind the barricade are protecting their assignments who are hunkered down. The agent who fired shot one deliberate and decisive shot. It is not a “police” style customary burst of fire. One very controlled shot.
The rioter in light blue was interviewed after the incident and said they were clearly warned not to cross that barrier and he was trying to pull her back as she advanced. So there appears to be very clear warning that was ignored.
I am posting this because the Jan 6 thread contained a lot of back and forth speculating it was an accidental discharge.
It was not.
There was also bickering about the lethal force of police officers on an unarmed rioter.
It was not.
This was lethal force as the final layer of security was breached, which I assume is protocol.
I would call this a failing of the DC Police for allowing the rioters to get past THEIR layers of security.
Someone broke it down to me like this:
For Biden’s inauguration, he will be covered by Secret Security, assisted by the DC police. The DC police will control perimeters and hopefully stop any aggressors before they penetrate their layer of security. However, if they succeed, they will be met by lethal force by SS agents, whose job is only to stop threats against their assignments.
This appears to be what happened yesterday–the woman was advancing on the final layer of security and crossed the barrier physically into the safe-space where Congresspersons were sheltering.
For whatever it’s worth, the woman was apparently identified as Ashli Babbitt and is an Air Force veteran. She tweeted “nothing will stop us” shorty before breaking into the Capitol.
45% of Republicans approve of the storming of the Capitol building
68% of Rebublicans say it was not a threat to democracy
According to a survey by YouGov:
Nancy pelosi has called for pence and the cabinet to invoke the 25th. If they do not she will start impeachment.
I meant that it was so lame-assed that I’m doubting there was any intent at a coup. I could easily believe Trump would attempt to lead something so dumb but regular law enforcement? That’s harder to swallow. If a coup attempt got out they’d be in serious trouble so they’d have to think it would succeed. Would someone pin their hopes of staying out of prison on amateur lowlifes?
Yesterday was so surreal. But the weirdest part was how self-contradictory it was. It was utterly shocking, and yet totally predictable. It was utterly unprecedented and revolutionary, and yet changed nothing. It was horrifying and yet ended up doing very little damage, compared to how much it seemed it might. And it was both the most gripping edge-of-the-seat breaking news since 9-11, and also kind of boring.
Perhaps the people in law enforcement who colluded are too stupid to know that what they were doing fits the definition of a coup attempt. They still need to answer for it.
Obligatory West Wing reference:
I can definitely go along with that: there was no coordinated attempt but some law-enforcement quietly let things go further than they should have to see what would happen.
A serious inquiry needs to be made and almost certainly heads should roll.
Guys, guys, Lindsey Graham is holding a press conference right now saying that, “this needs to end.” THANK GOD! Lindsey, a frightened nation turns its eyes to you!
By whom?
A sentence we never thought we’d hear.
