It will be interesting to watch the Feds declare each of those organizations to be PATRIOT Act terrorist organizations, put all their members on the no-fly lists, and start rounding them up.
And freeze their bank accounts and seize their assets.
Well, I was wrong. I predicted that there would be several large protests in a couple of states leading to gunfire and injury/death, and I was wrong. Apparently facing well-armed National Guard troops was enough to keep the folks who want to start a 2nd Civil war from starting anything. Not that they aren’t brave and hardy souls ready to lay down their lives, but…there’s a couple good NFL games on the TV today, and it is a bit cold outside…
Glad I was wrong, now hope I’m right that the Inauguration goes off without a hitch.

The African Union one is satire, the Venusuelians really did release that because USA tried to coup them a few times but then got attempted couped by their own fuckwits.
I doubt that there’s any country in the world that America has preached to about democratic elections - not to mention the countries where America has overthrown, or tried to overthrow, democratic governments - that isn’t feeling a certain amount of schadenfreude about the claims of election fraud and the Capitol riots.
It’s worth noting, in case there was any confusion, that Parler is NOT functionally back online.
All they have on their website is a message saying “We will resolve any challenge before us and plan to welcome all of you back soon”.
schadenfreude is putting it mildly. A lot of indigenous and democratic groups all over the world are celebrating this is as the domino that will soon lead to the collapse of the American empire.

You are certainly correct that the PATRIOT Act was itself an authoritarian mistake. Odd that a multi-thousand page piece of legislation was ready to pass in just 2 days. Clearly somebody in high places had that on a shelf awaiting a suitable excuse to enact it.
At the moment we are in desperate times. Which may call for more desperate actions. 9/11 was a mere pinprick compared to the systematic sustained assault on our entire democracy at all levels by the well-funded forces of Fascism.
Sunsetting the PATRIOT Act, FISA, and all the rest will be one of the greatest days in the history of our nation. Provided we continue to exist as that nation long enough to get there.
Your empire going down should be good for everyone though, it’s just got to be managed properly.
