The American Coup: 11.9.2020 -

Some of us like to keep abreast of current events.

I was fooled once by a conspiracy theory. I felt like a boob.

When I was a teenager, my greatest ambition was to feel a boob.

It’s titillating.

It’s always nice to stroll down mammary lane.

Could we please get back to the administration’s tit for tat?

Sen Steinburg’s metaphor is more apt than he realizes. Donald Trump’s primary agenda right now is to milk the boobs.

Whatever he gets out of them, it sure won’t be the milk of human kindness.

It’s udderly pointless to talk sense into them, so may as well nurse that cash flow teat as long as it isn’t dry!

Of all the claims about “the difference between Trump fans and Trump opponents” that have been made, this one may be the most accurate: the difference is that Trump opponents watched Square One TV—and fans of the Mango Menace have no idea what Square One TV is.

(Apologies for this post’s lack of mammorable content.)

These boobs are made for walkin’…

I disagree.
There is so, so much that has happened in US politics that just seems unfathomable right now to the rest of the democracies.
My native UK has its fair share of right-wing blowhards. It has things like the Daily Mail that are akin to FOX. It had Piers Morgan (thanks for taking one for the team, America). It has idiots believing 5G causes Covid.
But still…virtually any of Trump’s scandals would have been immediately disqualifying because supporters and detractors alike would acknowledge what happened. We couldn’t get anywhere close to this coup stage, let alone the blatant lying and waving on of extremists along the way.

Now, you could argue that some day countries like the UK will be just like the US, but I would personally need to see some data to indicate that.

I disagree with this too; it’s not China’s M.O.

Sure, the Chinese government has been pointing and laughing at the US and saying that this utter mess is what you get when you give people the vote. Trump’s idiocy helps build the case for authoritarian governments worldwide.

But it’s not in their best interest for a nutter to be president, nor civil unrest. It’s bad for business. China is not immune to trade wars, actual military wars or the world economy being depressed. Don’t forget China owns a lot of US debt (not most of it though, as often gets incorrectly reported).

The idea of being #1 at all costs is more of a US cultural thing than a Chinese thing.

Okay, peeps-- got this in an email. This is a hoax, right?

ETA: Maybe not.

I like the “prior to January 20th” part. Because after that he’s going to go, knowing that he really has to?

Poor bastard.

I should probably send him a check.

Any attempt to remove Trump will require force.

Trump will be in Mar-a-Largo on Jan 20th. I have a feeling this won’t work out so great for the Trump Administration.

I do agree with one thing. Americans deserve better.

Sure looks like he’s going to have his own fake swearing in ceremony in Florida on Jan. 20. Maybe he’ll get that crazy coot 10 commandments judge from Alabama to do the honors. No matter what he does, a good portion of his Secret Service detail plus those for his adult children plus the nuclear football plus AF1 are going to be leaving him at noon that day.

And his twitter account will be disabled as well, most likely.

Maybe 15 or 20 years ago, I would have assumed even a fraction of what has transpired the last 5 years to be disqualifying behavior. Things change, Mijin, and they can change faster than we might assume possible.

I absolutely agree that, institutionally, British democracy, Canadian democracy, and other Westernized democracies are much stronger than what we have now in the United States, which has been in a steady, observable decline since the turn of the 21st Century. But you look at what has happened in Eastern Europe for example, and then you look a little further to the West and you can hear the rumblings of ethno-nationalism in Germany and France…it’s not that hard for me to imagine that it could all change rather quickly. All it would take are a lot of unemployed and underemployed males under the age of 35.

I’m not saying China wants to be number one at all costs - I don’t think it wants to see the US dissolve into breakaway republics, for example. But I suspect China is absolutely fine with the US tripping over its own schlong. China clearly views itself as the dominant power in Asia and it wants the US out of its way. So while I agree that a fractured and unstable US is not necessarily in China’s interests, I doubt it’s shedding tears over what it is observing right now and it is probably in its own way going to thrust its influence upon us from time to time where it believes it can be used to its advantage, no different from Russia (although there, too, I agree that there is a difference between the objectives of Putin and Xi). All of this is to say, US mired in its own internal messes ensures that China can achieve its global political aims with far greater ease.

From that article (bolding mine):

“Trump is exhausting all of the legal remedies available to him in order to expose the now-verified widespread voter fraud that occurred during the election.”
