The Angels appreciation thread

As far as I’m concerned, one can root for two different teams provided:

  1. The teams aren’t even in the same league, let alone the same division.

  2. One team is the team one grew up with, and the other is the one closest to where one lives. In other words, you can root for a second team if you’ve moved away from the first.

I say that because I’ve rooted for the Philly teams for well nigh 30 years but now also root, kind of, for the Washington teams (and the Orioles). Okay, so that goes against #1 - but when the Eagles play the Redskins, I’m rooting for the Eagles. Every time. :>

[sub]In fact, this year I’m pretty much rooting against the Redskins; I kind of want to see them fall flat this year.[/sub]

Both the Dodgers and Angels are considered home town teams here in LA. The Angels were once the Los Angeles Angel.

I adopted both when I moved here in 1984. I gave up on the Reds long ago.

Although disappointed in the Twins loss, I am really happy for the Angels organization.

Having grown up in SoCal, I have been to about 100 Angel games at the old Big A, and know first hand of the frustration this organization has felt of not being able to get to the World Series.

Good luck guys, and win it all, for those that tried before you, Grich, Baylor, Ryan, Tanana, Lynn, Downing, Carew, Decinces, Thon, Witt, Moore and the Singing Cowboy, Gene Autry.

Donnie Moore has been avenged!!! Now he can lay in peace.

No one can stop the Angels onslaught. They are the team of DESTINY!

Hmmm… perhaps you’ve never heard of a little thing called DUSTINY!

See you Saturday, spooje.

Un-frikkin-believable. I have to take my hat off to the Angels. I have never seen anything like last night.

As a Yankee fan, I watched in astonishment as the Angels pulverized what’s probably the deepest pitching staff in baseball. They got to every one of them, except Rivera, who was in only one game (because the Yanks almost never had a lead near the end). It wasn’t a couple of pitchers have a few off days, it was that the Angels are white-hot right now.

But that seventh inning last night was positively surreal.

Congrats to the Angels. I hope they go all the way.

This last weekend games were FUN!!! You cannot even comprehend the energy at the Big Ed. These post season games has been the most fun I have ever had at baseball games. I find it is so much easier to be at the game. At home I am very nervous, but no opportunity to do that when there are >44K of your closest friends around to holler with.

Bring on the Giants!!! We can take whoever you throw at us. We spanked the Yankee and sent them home crying and then did the same with the Twins, so Giants are next. (I sorta like the Twins though, their manager–wow what a great guy he should run for governor of the state of Cali I’d vote for him. I even like AJ, his cockiness was endearing and what other player would admit that his dad took him to task for not playing nice)

Look for me, I will be the one wearing red, pounding a thunder stick, I don’t carry a monkey but I do have a towel with a monkey picture on it that was a giveaway last year. You can’t miss me. My seats are right behind home plate. upper view MVP.

Believe in the power of the Rally Monkey!
Go Angels!

Just wondering if any Australian dopers opened this thread expecting to read someone gushing about Doc Neeson & Co…

To Spooje: Once in the early 1980s I was in San Francisco, waiting at a streetcar stop on Market Street. I was talking with some people about the Dodgers and the Giants, and I sang a line from Danny Kaye’s song “The D-O-D-G-E-R-S Song (Oh really? No, O’Malley!)”, like this:
“J-I-N-T-S–JINTS!”
One of the people reacted by saying, “Step out on the streetcar tracks!”

*** The Angels are the Champiopns!! The Angels are the Champiopns!! The Angels are the Champiopns!! The Angels are the Champiopns!!***

What a team. Personally, I think Spiezio should have got MVP, but Glaus was great too.

YES!!!
G’night Barry.

Gotta love those Angels!

Congrats to the Halos!

It must be hard to pronounce “Champiopns,” Spooje, especially in the loud cheering voice your formatting suggests.

OK, the only way I know the Angels won is because my sister told me. I don’t follow sports much, could you tell? (I mean, I did know that they were getting close, and I was rooting for them, but I didn’t watch the game or anything…)

My meagre interest in baseball is more centered around the Dodgers, but of course I have loyal feelings towards the Angels. So, here’s my cheer.

YEAH ANGELS!!!

As a dodger fan i wasnt much intrested in the actual game but I had to cheer against the giants and bonds

But now angels fans can quit whining now about how no one respects them in la…

Now lets have a real series next year and see the dodgers and the angels in the series
