If MSNBC wants to make Biden win, the best way to do so is to make their coverage 100% nonstop about Biden positivity. Nothing but Biden good for economy, good for Ukraine, good for this or that. Pretend Trump doesn’t even exist. No matter how scandalous or fascist Trump behaves, never even utter the T-word. Never show his face. In fact, cover news as if it’s 2014, not 2024, and Trump has never even been mentioned in American politics before.
Either that, or they all remember the immortal words of Socrates: “I drank what?” There may be mass flame-outs that will make the final day at Waco look like a Boy Scout barbeque. Mass suicides, unfortunately with a heart-sickening amount of collateral damage, will ensue. If cultists could learn from their mistakes, they wouldn’t be cultists.
Your opinion of my news intake habits is noted with all the seriousness it deserves. You have no idea what else I watch or read. If you have any more personal comments about me I suggest you take it to the pit.
“Nobody ever said ‘Socrates, hemlock is poison.’”
And you miss my point. Dems and Republicans have been so worried about Not Trump, Not Biden that they have failed to nurture the real , young, hope for our future candidates. Would they have won? Probably not but they are like young seedlings. If you don’t take care of them and help them grow then they die off. If you are trying to get me to engage you won’t. At 76 I’ve learned that 4 yrs is simply 4 yrs. We will all survive one way or another. What I am saying is that we need to be more invested in what we do 4 yrs from now.8 yrs from now. 100 yrs from now.
“We will all survive one way or another” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Yeah, we’ll all survive, but what kind of world will we be in? You’re complaining that we haven’t decided what color petunias to plant in our flower bed when the barbarians have set fire to our fruited plains. Complaining about “both sides” is myopic at this point.
It absolutely led to his victory. Trump did horribly during the Republican debates. He spoke much less than any other candidate. He had no plans or ideas. He showed he was unprepared to be president. However he was sharing the stage with a bunch of bozos and he had no problem calling them bozos to their face. Who do you think got the most coverage? His lack of substance wasn’t covered just his insults because they were good for TV. All of a sudden he was seen as the strongest candidate.
Pretending there aren’t problems is myopic as well. That will lead to people voting a way you don’t want or staying home.
Responding to the talk of a ground game and it’s effectiveness, maybe I’m different than most people? I don’t want to talk face to face. You come to my door I’ll keep it open just long enough to let you know how unhappy I am that you scared my dog. If you somehow get me to actually answer the phone I’ll hang up as soon as I find out it’s political. I don’t want any party to intrude into my life. If anything it will sour me against you and your candidate if you are pushy about it.
This is what a propaganda outlet like Fox does. MSNBC is not trying to be a propaganda outlet.
No kidding. Cambodia lost 25% of their population to violent executions and purges 1975-1978, but they survived. I don’t recommend it.
Khmer Rogue: 1/10. Would not recommend.
The NYT is, quite frankly, full of shit. For starters, given the man isn’t in office, of course ‘anti-Trump’ activity is down. To use an analogy, more people hate the Yankees when the Yankees are winning World Series. Since the Yanks haven’t won a WS in 15-years, it’s safe to say that anti-Yankee sentiment is down as well.
They are privately held, so this is wishing, but I would love to see the NYT subscription and engagement numbers for the past ten years, for what I’m getting is that they miss Trump and what he does for their bottom line. ‘Anti-Trump sentiment is down’ could be rephrased ‘all the anti-Trumpers are no longer engaging with our content.’
Trump enthusiasm has waned, and quite significantly. Perhaps the NYT should spend its time on this story, given that this is genuinely impacting his election chances.
But that would be bad for their profits. You know what would be good for those profits? A Trump victory.
I bet they spiked upwards when they acquired Wordle.
The problem is more than the NYT. It’s all the media. DJT has always been a ratings draw. That’s why one of the networks cut away from a Hillary speech in 2016 to show an empty podium waiting for His Orangeness to appear. They gotta have a horse race even if one of the horses has only 3 legs. Got a guy with 91 indictments? No worries, focus on his opponent’s age incessantly. The minute Biden wins in November, the orange cow that lays golden eggs will be no more. They’re addicted to the numbers that DJT draws and aren’t even trying to quit.
They’d just revert to the status in ‘21 and ‘22 of constant speculating on in his court cases and on who is or is not seeking or getting his endorsement and what does he say about any Republican trying to move on. Save death or imprisonment he’s not going away willingly and they’re not letting go.
Recent article in The Atlantic: “How the Trump Resistance Gave Up.”
It is probably paywalled for many people, unfortunately. But the article talks about how many people who were previously fervently opposed to Trump have had an attitude of fatigue and indifference instead and a lot of energy has petered out.
The author turns it around a bit in his conclusion:
In this final stretch of the campaign, there are glimmers of outrage. According to NPR, 200,000 Washington Post readers have canceled their subscriptions to protest Bezos’s decision. In the long run, that boycott might self-destructively imperil an essential institution. In the short run, it’s evidence that a meaningful portion of the electorate is unwilling to sleepwalk into a second Trump term, a hopeful indication that the cloud of apathy might, however belatedly, be lifting.
Unless my skim was too fast the Atlantic article seemed like an all-vibes piece. In fact the Dems have been very well funded this election. Has volunteering gone down? Not to my knowledge.
It’s a 50-50 race, though I would give Harris somewhat better odds. If Trump wins, will the Resistance be resurrected? Almost assuredly yes, and I’ll try to do my part. It has always been a marathon, not a sprint.
I find it hard to believe that anyone who is/has been fervently opposed to Trump is suddenly indifferent. He and his idiot followers get worse by the day and someone’s attitude is “meh”? Doesn’t make sense. Also, fatigue is not an attitude. The energy part I can believe.
Just pointing this out because we all talk at length of the potential horrors of another Trump presidency and the death of democracy and I think to myself ‘what does he suppose we’ll be doing while they put on their shitshow; just sitting there and letting it happen?’
I recently re-watched The Matrix while getting a crown replaced.
This article reminds me of The Oracle. As Morpheus said “She told you what you need to know.”
Maybe the author is just trying to psych Harris voters up.
Or, more likely, it’s just another opinion piece that will be read and forgotten quickly, like all the other myriad opinion pieces.
More striking is the divide between the two parties, with 77 percent of Democrats saying they are more enthusiastic compared to 67 percent of Republicans. This marks a drop on both sides compared to Gallup polling from September, which found 80 percent of Democrats were more enthusiastic compared to 75 percent of Republicans.
The newest numbers roughly match the 2020 numbers, also released at the end of October that year, which found 75 percent of Democrats or Dem-leaning independents felt more enthusiastic compared to 66 percent Republican.
The 2016 election had a very narrow difference, with only 53 percent of Republicans enthusiastic compared to 50 percent for Democrats.
So… a lot more like 2020 than 2016. Or maybe I should trust Franklin Foer’s vibes-based analysis. He did write an interesting book about soccer 20 years ago.
