The Apprentice -- 05/05/05

Happy Cinco de Mayo de Cinco, all!

Tonight is the third-to-last episode, a.k.a. “Say ‘buh-bye!’ Craig!” It’s interview night, and there’s no way he’s going to make it out of that alive.

So, Tana and Kendra for the final two – looks like Trumpie’s gonna have to hire a girl. Either way, I think he’ll get a good employee, if not a superstar – Kendra is a hard worker and a whiz at marketing, while Tana’s ability to schmooze makes her an excellent saleswoman. I don’t hate either of them – but I don’t love either of them, either. Tana lost me when she bailed Dodge night, and Kendra’s tantrums – well, she’s young yet.

If forced to pick the ultimate winner, I’m gonna go with Kendra. I’m trying to apply the Rancic/Perdew correlary, and I can’t think of an example of either of them being portrayed as a real bozo. Whaddya do with yer correlary then, Mully?

Happy Cinco de Mayo to you too, twickster!

For Craig to survive the interviews, either Tana or Kendra would have to make a complete mess of themselves. I think that this is a virtual impossibility (and therefore a finite improbability).

At least it’s almost over. Pass the Corona, please.

Works like a charm, actually.

Kendra’s bozoness - none. The closest she came is in arguments with Craig, but I think those were included to show Craig as the bozo and Kendra as the underdog in an attempt to manipulate viewers into rooting for her so we would all be happy when she ends up winning. They didn’t take into account that Kendra hasn’t shown the greatest disposition which limits her likeability. So, while she probably seems the most deserving, she won’t be remembered fondly.

Tana’s bozoness - Episode 1, peed on by a dog. Multiple episodes, odd mispronounciations or malaprops (Uma Thurma?), the mad hunt for the Bedazzler, waking up in bed with a foreign object after Kendra’s all-nighter. No bozo moments that completely doom her, but in comparison with the pristine Kendra she hasn’t got a chance.

And, just for grins:
Craig’s bozoness - Pretty much every minute of screen time when he is talking.

I wouldn’t assume that there was any deliberate manipulation involved. Rather, I’d say that conflict simply makes for good television drama, and that Craig’s bozoness simply shone through in all its glory.

I’m really not sure if I’m feeling dread or eager anticipation of seeing Craig interviewed. Every time he’s had to open his mouth in the boardroom I’ve been cringing hard. He fills me with a combination pity/revulsion. Kind of like a run-over cat! I think tonight is going to be a squirm fest!

Holy cow! Craig got booted off! Take that, shoeshine boy!

Yeah, yeah. I know that this episode doesn’t air for another 7 hours and 15 minutes. Still, why wait?

as an aside, did anyone catch Omarosa on Dr Phil yesterday? (yes yes, I know Dr Phil is the antichrist or whatever g) Anyway, she’s so in denial that she wasn’t fired for being a black woman but rather for being a poor candidate. She denied lying during Kwame’s last task and was smarmy girl all over The Donald.

/aside

I may be the only one, but I think Kendra’s negative attitude could be revealed in her interviews and, in addition, she is really young. She may have a tougher time than everyone thinks and I think the interviewers will cut through her pretty quickly. I question whether she has really worked long enough to handle these interviewers. As much as Craig is not a team player, he may be able to do just an average job in the interviews, and with his experience, that may be enough to get by Kendra and her lack of experience.

I’m pretty sure Tana will just abuse the interviewers. She is natural salesperson and is the best candidate at reading people.

On the aside, I saw Osama–er… Omarosa a while back on some Fox news show. She was just as bad as you described. Did she try to tell Dr. Phil that she knew more than him? I wouldn’t be surprised. She was a smarmy liar on the apprentice, the was a smarmy liar on that Fox show, and I am positive she will be a smarmy liar for the rest of her life.

She was a simpering fool. “oh Dr Phil, whatever YOU say is right… even though I don’t agree.”

You can tell she’s been in politics. Every “answer” was an evasion. TD said that Kwame wasn’t very happy with Omarosa to which she replied “oh really? I just talked with him last week…” Then TD asked her why she lied and why she was so horrible during Kwame’s task since she single handedly blew it for him and she just blew Donald off and started talking about his hair or something.
And for my choice for this season’s Apprentice, I was rooting for Tana from the get go but now…I’m thinking I’d like to see Kendra get it. If only to see Craig’s head explode.

I’ve seen no indication of that.

Does she have a negative attitude? No more so than anyone else (with the possible exception of Danny), and I daresay that her gripes have all been legitimate.

Maybe the interviewers will indeed cut through her quickly, but I don’t see any reason to believe that.

If I had to deal with Craig, I’d probably display a little negative attitude now and then myself.

I’m in the “eager anticipation” camp for the interview segment tonight. I hope they not only show Craig’s weird non-answers but the interviewers’ “WTF??” faces (you know there are going to be a bunch).

And I agree that Kendra is going to get the job. She’s shown herself to be creative and a hard worker, albeit not a leadership star; but in spite of everyone striving to show leadership, I don’t think TD is hiring for that, he wants people who will do what they’re told without arguing, and except for dealing with Craig, Kendra has not had any problems. Tana is just too much of a wild card in that respect – she comes on too strong, IMO. TD wants smart people and strong people but not pushy people, and you know to make it that big doing what Tana does she’s pushy as hell.

I went through the team stats for the remaining three candidates. Results show:

Kendra 3-0-0
Tana 2-1-1
Craig 2-0-2

Numbers are: Project Manager Wins, Project Manager Losses, Boardroom Appearances.

I think that it’s astounding that Kendra has gone through 14 weeks without a boardroom appearance! That, and the fact that she’s undefeated as a project manager, will help her to win the prize should things be close. Recall that last week either Tana and Alex could have been justifiably fired for their job on the t-shirts, but Tana prevailed when she pulled her ace out of her pocket – her superior track record over Alex. In fact, she was sinking fast last week until she used the “better record” line. Craig’s multiple boardroom appearances will hurt him even if he survives the interviews.

Just read a local article on Tana here this morning. She finished all but her final semester of college. Not sure if that will be good enough, but she is not someone who has absolutely no higher education.

Gotta cheer for the local girl down at the bar tonight. It’s pretty fun, she is there every Thursday and has interesting things to say during the commercials.

Her husband is also a local new channel’s weather guy. FWIW

I want to see Craig tell the interviewers that they don’t know the meaning of the word interview!

Well we’d all love to hear about it! Does she say anything embarassing about anyone?

I don’t get it… the show’s been on for 18 minutes and we have a firing already?

… we had to play Fallen Comrades?

::geez::

Oh, puh-leeze – there’s no way they could create any tension over who was going home next.

There’s something extremely hilarious going on. I guess when you’ve got reality show contestant lemons you make reality show lemonade. I can’t wait. I’m so excited.

Carolyn is so beautiful again. She makes me feel very weird.

Rysler and I are on IM oohing and aahing over Carolyn’s new do – I like it a lot! Very sophisticated.
