The Apprentice -- 4/24/06

And so we head into sweeps month – after a long, long week off, we’re back tonight.

The task is creating a souvenir program for Ellis Island – with appearances by both the lovely Ivanka but also Donald, Jr.

See y’all back here at 9:00.

According to the previews, Gold Brick misses the boat!!

Yay I’m actually going to watch it tonight! Someone call Ripleys!

Obviously, no one in the team can tell time.

Good God, I read this, and thought that the episode had already started, so I checked my TV listing and it didn’t appear because stupid frickin’ Deal or No Deal is on until nine-oh-one and then I got really confused and thought I had somehow missed it completely and OH, JUST DON’T DO THAT TO ME!!!

The Donald – what a piece of work. Comparing Trump Tower and Ellis Island? Jay-zuz.

Well that was a total anticlimax.

Trump’s son looks and talks exactly like Tucker Carlson.

So it all boiled down to who got to Battery Park first. Pretty basic, but satisfying.

Looks like some team shifting for next week, huh?

I called it from the start. I even predicted Gold Rush broke 1500 if Synergy was at 800. I’m surprised there was only firing, but I guess Trump has to throttle it back or else the season would be too short. I’ll see if I can come up with some Raj ratings…

I wonder why neither team went to Liberty State Park in NJ. That’s the other major gateway to Ellis Island for tourists and is also served by the Circle Line. If I had been project manager, I’d have sent two there and the other two to the Castle Clinton (Battery Park) gateway.

I was all set to ask “but are there any New Yorkers still around who’d know that,” but then I realized that there wouldn’t have to be, that should have been basic research.

Overall, I’d have to call this one of the top five most boring episodes ever. And who can possibly remember a more boring episode, since there would be nothing memorable to remember, if there were such an episode?

Dull episode. It WAS nice to see the end of Andrea. Young Trump looks a lot like his Daddy. The interaction between the three was interesting. Who is the mother of these two? Ivanna?

Yup.

He had Tiffany by Marla Maples, and just had Barron by the lovely Melania.

Am I the only one who thought the Trumpster was in desperate need of a haircut? The back of his head was all fuzzy and messy and shaggy in the opening scenes. I know he wears it way too long anyhow, but it really looked a mess. And what’s with having the kids comment on the task as it goes along? George and Carolyn never make comments to the camera during the task, so why do Ivanka and Donald the Dark?

Thank you! I thought I was being obsessive about it. That was one hot mess on the back of his head! Surely someone that rich can get someone to come to his office and cut his hair while he’s on the phone, or have one of his many chippies give him a trim. It really was distracting!

I thought Sean came off quite well in this episode. It’s a real tightrope act he put on, not bashing Mandrea (what a Quaalude voice!) but still being nonconfrontational with his cuddlebuddies. Of course, we’ll see if he catches hell from Allie over saying she should be fired. He might be stuck nuzzling just Roxanne from now on…

I’ve seen Carolyn and George do it on occasion in the past - Carolyn more so (or more memorable I guess) than George, but it does happen.

I liked the way Ivanka was all in Allie’s face during the show and in the boardroom, but after Trump fired Andrea, she was sucking up to her father as though she approved of firing her all along.

Well, I don’t really think that’s a fair assessment. In all likelihood, she though that BOTH of these ladies had failed rather dramatically. She may have gotten on Allie’s case, but that didn’t mean that she was giving Andrea a free pass.

And don’t forget… we only see a tiny fraction of the full boardroom footage. It’s possible that a lot of her criticisms toward Andrea just didn’t make it into the final video.

I’m glad the Evil Andrea is gone. . . but she’s NOT the reason the Gold Brick team lost. They lost because Synergy outsmarted them and out-hustled them on many levels. First, Synergy went after the bulk sales early on. That kind of paid off for them. Good thinking!

Second, Synergy was up at the crack of dawn and grabbed a perfect sales place. They worked the crowd well and looked professional. (What was with those ugly American Flag ties Gold Brick was wearing?) It was a classic example of the Early Bird catching the Worm.

Gold Brick’s gaffes should have been laid right at Allie’s feet. She should have been the one dismissed. But she smartly rallied her little troops, except the snakey Sean, and survived for another adventure.

It’s unfortunate that Baby Donald looks so much like his father. Way too meaty! I like Ivanka more each time I see her. I think I’d like to have lunch with her.

I think all the players are underestimating Lee. He’s smart. He works his tail off. And he seems to get along well enough with his remaining teammates, Charmaine excepted, but I don’t think she gets along with anyone. I think his major fault is that he’s young, so he probably won’t win.

I don’t see a clear winner from this bunch. Does anyone else?
