The Apprentice -- 5/22/06

Yeah – when someone doesn’t go after a friend, he or she gets reamed for that. It does seem a bit disingenuous to fire them both for that.

Not that they didn’t both deserved to be fired, just for sheer annyoingness.

I guess this means there’s two episodes left. Trump had to fire two people tonight, and the women handed themselves to him on a silver platter.

Those Synergy uniforms were the most hideous things I think I’ve ever seen. The fabric was ridiculous. And the style was just appalling.

Roxanne once again pulled exactly the same stunt both women pulled last week on Tammy – sat back and said absolutely nothing. Of course, in this situation it was probably because Allie had total custody and control of her brain, so it wouldn’t have made any difference if she’d opened her mouth in any case. Even in the cab, Allie was still speaking for them both. Gah. Pathetic!

I’m still not sure why I’m watching this suckfest, except that at this point it’s fun to watch Ivanka.

I’m not sure firing Roxanne was warranted but firing Ally definitely was, and you could make an argument for both of them being failures on the task itself.

lee showed again why he should be the winner. His idea to ask the employees what they wanted and to tailor the designs directly to them was what won the task for them. Ally was completely taken with her own imagined brilliance and never really understood the purpose of the uniforms. I don’t think she saw the employees as really people who would relly have to wear those uniforms and work in them all day every day. I can’t believe she tried to design non-bleachable uniforms for the kitchen. She was also clueless rude and condescending to the designer. Roxanne’s failure was not to tell her her ideas were crap and that she was acting like a bitch. She got too caught up in their little “friendship” and put it ahead of both the task and her own future in the game.

Lee’s ideas and critiques are always spot on and correct. He’s one of the smartest guys I can remember seeing on this show. I don’t know why some people don’t like him. He doesn’t have a perfect personality but he’s been consistently surrounded by morons. That tends to bring out the worst in people.

Agreed, DtC. He’s a politically astute player who rarely gets it wrong - he typically understands what’s at stake during each task. He’s the only player in the five seasons of TA that routinely comes up with ideas better than most of us at home do - I saw glimpses of this in Kendra but let’s face it - how often can you and five friends come up with better ideas and strategies than the goons presented by Burnett & Co.?

I feel Lee could teach most of us a thing or two about business. Plus, I think Trump has let Lee lite slip away in previous seasons - there have been at least two guys whose names I can’t remember now who were the young go-getter types. And they got shitcanned because they were too young and inexperienced. Lee was smart in waiting until later in the game to be PM in smaller groups where he had credibility. As winning PM, he usually figures out the killer strategy that positions him for success and simultaneously cuts off the competition at the knees.

I didn’t like him at first - I thought he was milking the religious holiday waivers and was a tad slimy. But he’s made a believer out of me. Sean is irksome, (questionable) style over substance. I’m sure Lee will get the more challenging assignment next week, and have more difficulty in his task. But he really is far and away the best of the bunch.

There won’t be any ‘Scoreboard’ for this week – there’s no point to it any longer.

My guess is that Trump planned to fire both of the losing team this week all along. What can you do with three? 2 vs. 1 is too great a difference, and trying to find a task for three as individuals can’t be easy, either. So he tells the losing team one of them must be fired, and sits back while they fight: what else can they do? Hasn’t every single board room involved two or more fighting for the chance to continue? And then he says he’s firing them because they fought. :smack:

I agree, currently Lee is the front-runner. He did great work this time.

Also, did you notice how nicely he slid in the comment about Sean being a metrosexual when DT was there? Slick.

I’ve liked Lee since about mid-season when he got tired of always being on the losing team and started coming up with innovative ways to win. Even though the team wouldn’t listen to him, preferring to plod along without any imagination and the team lost anyway, Lee made himself stand out by expressing his ideas and even doing things without the team leader’s permission. Remember the deal he tried to close for 500 P’eatzzas for the 7-11 task? It didn’t go through but he scored big points with Trump for trying it.

The moment Allie uttered the word “culottes” I knew they were going to lose. I also had flashbacks to the '70’s, which was the last time culottes were popular (for a short time), only they were called gauchos then. Then she had to toss in the puffy sleeves and the waitress-style cuffs (also popular for a very short time in the '70’s.) And the Jetsons bellboy outfit. And the pinstripe front desk outfit. Did anyone think that was even remotely attractive?

I think the stress of the competition finally made Allie go off the deep end. She just went nuts and had delusions of grandeur. I mean, all the suite staff they interviewed were 5 feet or under and on the plump side. Allie, herself, isn’t tall enough to wear culottes and look good. How could she possibly expect them to? And she seemed to totally miss the point that these outfits should be comfortable and functional.

Roxanne had proven herself to be a follower rather than a leader by letting Allie control her every movement. While I knew Allie had to go, I felt that Roxanne should be on the chopping block too for this reason. How can a lawyer be such a doormat? The double firing was a nice surprise.

I can’t wait to see what local business consultant and special columnist to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Maureen Moriarty, has to say in about this show in her Wednesday column. She’s been writing about The Apprentice, capturing the good, the bad and the ugly of each episode and capping it off with the business lesson of the week. Here is last week’s column, which I think is spot on. I discovered her a few weeks ago and have eagerly awaited each suppliment since.

I also think she may have believed that it was better to let Allie’s mistakes go through so that if they did lose, there would be a clear line of blame. Very faulty thinking, since we now know that it is important to step up and contribute and, at the end of the day, be a team player.

But, man! I could NOT stop laughing when I saw those uniforms. And when I saw the staff’s reactions to the uniforms.

Allie had this extremely annoying little head tilt/eyebrow scrunch/“I’m thinking very hard” look that she did everytime she was streching the truth, and it made me want to smack her (even more than I already did, which was a lot).

Actually, I was expecting Allie’s head to start spinning around and spew pea soup when Roxanne dared to contradict her in the Boardroom.

I can’t believe those obviously very smart and rather chic women came up with those stupid uniform designs. Whoever said they looked like Emerald City costumes was right on! Except that the girls didn’t even get the corporate color right!! Turquoise? Give me a break.

I honestly think this task was rigged. . . that some kind of deal or payoff was made to get both women fired and to make them look as stupid as possible in the process.

Is this show on the NBC fall schedule?

They were soliticing applications for the Los Angeles edition at the beginning of this season – I’d guess nothing till next winter.

At which point – Ivanka in La-La-Land, anyone?

The next series is supposed to start in January.

Interesting article. Her article for this week is up today.
