There are two articles now both acknowledging that the audit confirmed Biden won.
Seems to me that the US is going to need help – lots of help – with the next election. Trump has Made America Great Again™, so great that it’s going to need the help of the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs to run the next election, since it can no longer do it itself. The purpose of this department is to provide observers and advisors to ensure free and fair elections in fledgling democracies, banana republics, and former dictatorships that haven’t yet figured out how democracy works, or are incapable of implementing it. Which is pretty much post-Trump America.
The Chair of the Republican Party of Arizona calls for a new recount.
Un-Effin-believable!!
She must believe if she counts them enough times - - eventually, somehow - - one of the counts will have to go her way. Whichever one does go her way, THAT is the official one! Calling for another audit is like watching the movie Titanic for the hundred ninety-second time and truly believing the ship might not sink this time.
Honestly these people are embarrassing! They embarrass themselves and they embarrass the rest of the state (and their party, and their parents, and every sense of decency). They now have their opportunity to say: “Hey, we tried! We really, really did but there is just no there, there.” But most of them are not smart enough – they just have to invest more and more capital in this losing cause. Since they really are not even smart enough to vote (wisely), how the hell did they end up in positions of power? We all know Trump is lying to benefit himself, but many of these people actually believe this crap. Boggles my mind.
That’s precisely the shameless strategy, one that could have been concocted by a four-year-old (and was, in fact, concocted by a mental four-year-old). I wasn’t kidding in my previous post. Democracy is dead or dying.
I’m reminded of a column Cecil did on a perpetual motion scam — specifically, the way he ended the original article (he added an update later):
Newman, naturally, claims the tests were fixed. “I have no respect for the National Bureau of Standards,” he says. “This is a conspiracy against me.” He wants the court to order the testing of the test equipment. If that doesn’t work, no doubt he’ll demand the testing of the test equipment that tested the test equipment. These guys are so predictable.
And no doubt he’ll want the testers sacked.
I guess, except for the facts that Gore conceded, the election was actually close, and the recount was not carried out by partisan hacks.
Well, that and the “winners” didn’t riot.
Otherwise though it’s completely identical!
I remember that one!
Long before I ever entertained the idea of a home computer, I used to travel everywhere with one or more of Cecil’s books. I especially liked the first one (yellow), I know I also have a Navy blue one and perhaps one with a red cover. (Maybe that was why I thought of them as my ‘primary’ source of information- the colors.)
The most memorable column was (for me) the poem about the Fitzgerald Contraction. It was clever and funny and had that whole smart ass charm, but it was based upon the real science. He published the actual mathematical formula that governs travel at near speed of light. Changed my life is all it ever did.
You are bringing me down memory lane this morning!
Similar to the column you quoted, there was a guy who was convinced that sex was in all marketing and published a book with a picture of Ritz Crackers on the cover on which he claimed you could see the word ‘sex’ spelled out half a dozen times in the little salt dots on the crackers. He certainly accused his publisher and eventually sued (or threatened to sue) over using manipulated images on his own book cover.
It turned out the publisher just used stock pictures of crackers without any manipulation, but the author never believed that they were not altered. God I miss those books! How did my ex-wife end up with them, she hated those books! (She also ended up with my bar-b-que – wonder if my books became a victim of my cooking device.)
Maybe you folks do not read nutty Pro-trump sites. Try this one.
Wonderful headlines, but look at the number of reads, none over 5k.
Although the fraudit results show Biden as the winner, the ninjas, being typical Republicans, couldn’t help packing the report with utter ignorant bullshit.
“Among the misleading claims was the accusation that Maricopa County election officials had deleted election data in February from the election management system database, known as EMS, right before a county commissioned audit was set to begin.
The claim from the hearing echoed online, where it slightly morphed. “Maricopa County purged the machine records the day before the audit started,” reads one popular tweet.”
"“We have backups for all Nov. data & those archives were never subpoenaed,” the county said in a statement on Twitter. County officials said data cannot be stored indefinitely on the election management system. “Cyber Ninjas don’t understand the business of elections,” the county said. “We can’t keep everything on the EMS server because it has storage limits.”
It actually is quite brilliant, you’re just not thinking Evil enough.
Audit the Texas election, “discover” that Trump won it in a landslide, then spend the next four years crowing about “We told you he won the election!”
Remember, they’re not trying to convince anyone with a brain. They’re trying to convince Republicans.
“Because of concerns about voting irregularities discovered in Harris County, the legislature has decided to impose stringent oversights there on the next statewide election processes.”
The goal is to make blue urban areas justify the inclusion of their vote totals instead of accepting the results by default and making Republicans prove that they’re inaccurate.
Obviously a lot of details are different. What I meant, and what any reasonable person should be able to see, is the very strong similarity of outlook. The losers keep saying, “The count was incorrect! We actually won!” only to find out that a recount, no matter the method, would not have changed the outcome.
They were a bit more justified in 2000 to be skeptical and reacted more reasonably (grumbling rather than actively trying to destroy democracy) but yes, in either case the proper result was declared prior to audits.
Ok. If you had said that, I still would have disagreed. With Bush/Gore, Democrats accepted the results after a single verification.
“Cyber Ninjas still don’t understand this is legal under federal election law,” the county posted on its official Twitter account. “To label it a ‘critical’ concern is either intentionally misleading or staggeringly ignorant.”
Staggeringly ignorant. That’s worse than merely dumb.
I hesitate to even propose a hypothetical that gives any credence to these theories, but I want to point out a huge critical thinking flaw in their theorizing.
In Maricopa County, 47.65 percent of the votes were for Trump and 49.81 went to Joe Biden. There’s no reason to suspect that the distribution of any uncounted or double counted votes would be any different.
So let’s say that 17,000 votes were counted twice. Assuming they were distributed in the same fashion as the other votes in Maricopa County, Trump would gain……….367 votes.
That’s practically nothing. All it would do is cancel out the extra votes for Biden that were found during the recount, It would probably take the discovery of around a half million double-counted votes to flip the race back to Trump.
These narrow margins really aren’t that narrow when you consider the how big the mistake that changed them would have to be.
