The Awesomeness of the New Bond Trailer!

There is a vengeful God and His name is Bond. James Bond. If the flick’s half as good as the trailer, then anyone else hoping to wear the mantle of Bond, just needs to give it up. Good Christ, does it look to be one intense flick.

So, is Craig gonna get naked in this movie? I understand that’s a standard clause in his contract.

I am so there. The reboot of Bond is the best thing that has happened in movies in a while.

That overhead shot of the guys falling through the skylight is awesome.

BTW, glad that you’re back Tuckerfan.

Yup - this one is gonna be a good one! Just like Casino Royale.

But it has to be the lamest title ever… or is it also “based” on a book?

I believe it’s the title of a Fleming short story. Pretty clunky, IMO, but I’m sure the film will be anything but!

Ok, since the title is from a book, I guess it works.

Cool.
Are they following the novels in that he is a Commander in the RN?

The title’s from a short story that has very little to do with Bond. “Quantum of Solace” is a term invented by the Governor of Jamaica describing the bare minimum of affection one could feel for another. He describes it to Bond in the context of an anecdote about the collapsing marriage of a friend of his, some decades earlier.

It’s an interesting short story, with the minor negative of some unfortunate racial attitudes.

I think he’s ex-SAS in the new films.

I love all things Bond, and I can’t wait to see this one. It looks amazing.

And people doubted Daniel Craig as Bond when he was first chosen. I never did!

Special Air Service, not Special Boat Service?

Before Casino Royale the James Bond series was out of gas, coasting to a sad end. After watching the abysmal “Die Another Day” I said good bye to the Bond series - never again would I pay money to see a new Bond movie in the theaters. I was Bonded out.
Then I saw the trailer to Casino Royale. From the trailer alone I could tell they were dropping most of the worst cliche elements of the Bond series and returning to the grittier feel that Sean Connery had in the first 2 films. I was, shockingly, intrigued.
CR far exceeded my expectations! It was easily the best James Bond movie in at least 30 years! This trailer for “Quantum of Solace” has me equally excited.
Daniel Craig is the best James Bond since Connery. I used to think it was sacrilege to think anybody would play Bond better than Connery. While it’s still premature to say Craig is the definitive Bond, if he pulls out 2 or 3 more Bond movies that are on par with Casino Royale, Craig will earn that crown.

Rumor has it:

He’s going to have a gay sex scene!

The publicity shot of James Craig that was discussed in a Dope thread maybe twelve plus(?) months ago (I suspect the then linked photos are probably no longer accessible - sorry, won’t divert for a probably inactive search function) was not a very good one, and the attempted ‘improvements’ by a couple of skilled SDMB photoshoppers only seemed to make it worse.

James Craig proved himself to be an excellent choice and some of the movie dialogue, especially the train dining car scene between Bond and Vesper (a transcript of which I have, thanks to my shorthand skilled better half), is an excellent example of verbal ‘conflict’ - so vital to readable literature - unusual to find in a movie.

Not perfect, but Casino Royale definitely exceeded my expectations.

You’re kidding, right?
Is there some correlation I’m not aware of between people who watch James Bond movies and people who would sit through a gay sex scene?

Or any indication that (AFAIK) spontaneously making a character who has been around for 50 years bisexual wouldn’t be a colossal mistake?
I read recently that “Quantum” may be the name of the bad guys mentioned in the trailer who are confounding ‘M’ so much.

I’d be very surprised if that were true. This rumor sprang up ages ago and seemed more like Craig having a bit of fun than anything else. Not that I’d mind in the least – I’d quite like it, actually – but I can’t see the studio going for it.

Nice Bond girl

Yeah, Bryan has nailed it. The story isn’t about Bond, he’s just a guest at a party where the governor tells a fairly boring (IMHO) story about relationships.

The “unfortunate racial attitudes” are throughout all of Fleming’s stories: for instance, the villains are always mixed-race characters. Of course, those racial attitudes were prevalent in British society during Fleming’s early life, so what the hell. Hard to blame a writer for not being able to transcend the social mores of his time.

Entertainment magazine announced that, in the movie, Quantum was the name of the new evil organization (SPECTRE reborn, as it were). I think it was Ms Brocolli (producer) who said that they don’t know what the acronym QUANTUM stands for.

Now for the stupid comment- the title sounds like something the LHC is trying to find.
