The Awful Bands/Movies You Can't Help Liking Thread

I love Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, and many other '80’s movies(be they teen or another genre). I also love Labyrinth. It was always fascinating to me. I have the soundtrack, but Bowie just makes me cringe, so I don’t listen to it all the time.

I blame my older sister for my taste in these movies.
I blame my older brother for my taste in some of this music.

I actually like Big Country- you know “In a big country, dreams stay with you, Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside, Stay alive”. I have the “The Crossing” CD.

I like Duran Duran’s last CD “Pop Trash”. I bought it used for $8.99 this semester. It came out July of last year. That is how good someone thought it was. Of course, it could be the fact that one of the songs was the first songs in Spanish. The CD is dreamy.

I like ragtime. Someone help me. Oh, and Glenn Miller makes me swoon. And if you ever go to Disneyland, get on the Matterhorn. The music in the waiting area always makes me want to dance.

Oh, and do you remember Donna Lewis’ “I Love you Always Forever”? Loved that song. Also liked listening to “Mother, Mother” by Tracy Bonham. Have the CD. I was a confused 16 year old having a birthday.

There are many other things to tell, but all in due time.

Excuse me while I listen to “Take on me” by A-ha.

Xanadu - Arden, that was TOTALLY my favorite movie AND soundtrack for many a year. Fantastic.

I, too, own Ace of Base. I did have Journey, but lost it in the divorce to my ex-husband. Go figure.

Wesley Willis - WOW, that brings up some funny memories, Evnglion. Did you come across him in Chicago or on KROQ in LA? They used to play his stuff and mock him in a real appreciative manner. What a hoot.

[sub]streetlights, people,
whoa-oo-whoooooooaah[/sub]

I have a small collection of CDs that I love to listen to in the car that my friends can’t stand… they’ll KILL me if I try to play them while we’re riding. CDs by alt.country musicians like Charlie Robison, Bruce Robison, Jack Ingram, Hank Williams III…

Ea-sy E, tried to kill me. But he couldn’t, G.

Hey hey! Jack Ingram is an acquaintance of mine. He is an alumnist at the camp I was a 9 year camper at, and am now a counsellor at. I’ve met him on a number of occasions, and one time on my second to last year as a camper, he came and played a mini show for us, then came to our cabin and told stories from when he was a camper with our counsellor. It was really cool

I was in Bandera a few months ago, and noticed he was scheduled to play the saloon in like a week. I left a note for him at the office that said “Camp Longhorn loves you”. Next time I was there they said he was really happy when he saw it. Camp Longhorn is like the masons for Texas. When I wear my 6th year bracelet, or my 9th year ring I get business men walking up to me to shake my hand.

Well, now that I’ve put in a thorough attempt to hijack my own thread…

OK, I should be ashamed, but freely admit it, I like the movie “Hero at Large” starring John Ritter and Anne Archer. I even cry at the ending. Yeah, it’s a total stinker. But I’d rather watch an honest stinker than overblown crap like “Hero” with Dustin Hoffman.

Maybe this belongs in the “Brush With History” thread, but I co-starred with “Angela” from Sleepaway Camp in several summers stock theatre productions when I was in high school. She was a heck of a singer, and a pretty good actress.

In our first show together we had a scene where I had to pinch her ass. In my stupid, 15 year-old self concious ways, I refused and the director had to re-choreograph the scene.

“Angela” (I won’t give her real name here) had starred in Sleepaway Camp when we were in middle school, and she was well known in the community. I’m not sure what has become of her since.

Angela = Fellissa Rose. haha.

Born on the 23rd of May, 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York.

Sleepaway Camp was her only film, according to IMDB.

MarxBoy

That’s not her real name either. Felissa is, but Rose is not.

Hey, since her birthday is coming up, maybe we should start a Sleepaway Camp/Felissa Rose appreciation thread.

Alright here are my confessions:
(remember I’m a guy)

Bands/Groups—Jewel, Sarah Mclauglin, Sheryl Crow, etc…
I listen to every style of music, some of the ones my friends think suck are TOOL (how can they think tool sucks they should be crucified for thinking that) NOFX, Goldfinger they can’t stand any punk music. I also listen to rap which most of my friends like. There is this one group I discovered about 7 or 8 months ago they’re starting to get air play now but some of my friends don’t like them the group is J5 or Jurassic five. I forget the groups name if someone remembers the name post it but the lerics go:
whos the group??

bust in to your house
make love to your spouse
strap on a jimmy
because I don’t want a disease
fu*k her in the mouth
then I’m out
(it’s on a burned mix CD that I borrowed (ok stole) from one of my friends)
I pretty much hate an music which is made/produced for the sole purpose of sales, I know the artist and record companies want to get rich but the artist has to do their own thing.
Then there is also my fixation on Aguliera and it’s not just because she looks good I kinda like a couple of her songs.

And how the hell do I have such a wide variety of musical likes??? I always just say I can appreciate all music
Although I find it extremely weird?

I like Journey & KC & the Sunshine Band…and I’m not ashamed of it anymore! I know some people hate all the 80s music, but I love it, I was just coming into my own identity as a teenager. I have a HUGE folder of 80s stuff downloaded from Napster (Howard Jones, Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, Fun Boy Three, The Jam, The Undertones, Depeche Mode, Culture Club, Flock of Seagulls etc etc etc). There’s also a Jacksons album from the 80s called Triumph (I think) that I LOVE- it was before Michael Jackson started his solo career.
If I hear his stuff on the radio, I’ll sing along.
I loved Xanadu when it came out, but it was on tv a couple years ago and I taped it and you know what? IT SUX, especially the main character. He’s just plain awful! The only part I like now is the beginning sequence where the muses are coming out of the wall & dancing to “I’m Alive”. The music is groovy as well.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the John Hughes movies…I think The Breakfast Club is a classic.
Did you see the movie ‘The Wedding Singer’? The part where he’s getting married, and the string quartet is playing “Don’t Stop Believing”- it’s beautiful, man <sniff>.
