The New Orleans AAA baseball team has been renamed from the Zephyrs to the Baby Cakes
Obviously going for a Mardi Gras theme and falling short.
Yup…it’s clearly a reference to the New Orleans / Mardi Gras tradition of the king cake.
Still very weird, since “babycakes” is also a (fairly dated and kind of condescending) term of endearment, which I’ve usually heard applied towards women.
When Calgary moved their AAA team to Albuquerque and called them the Isotopes, that was cool.
This, frankly, not so much. WTF is their logo going to be? One of those horrible little plastic baby doll toys they put into king cake? Those featureless lumps of somewhat-baby-shaped horror are like an aborted fetus in your baked confection. Nice.
Yes, exactly. They have their merch for sale with just such a little creepy looking adult-faced baby wielding a baseball bat.
As evidenced by the above link and this one, “Baby” will not appear anywhere on their uniforms.
So, if they didn’t want to include the “baby” part, why did they include it? Just call themselves the “cakes”. Which is still a bit odd, but it’s a heck of a lot better than “Baby Cakes”.
Minor Pedantry: it seems to me that “Baby” is the cap logo for at least two of the six uniform combinations (the center two, in the pic you link to).
Awww, y’all are a bunch of party poopers. I like it and, if it’s something that was already in the past, would think it was really cool to have merchandise of. I like the mascot too.
I was referring to the word “Baby”, not the logo.
