The "BC" in BC comic strip...

Im from Binghamton, N.Y., where the strip originated, and the “B.C.” stands for Broome County, not “Before Christ”.

This is what was told to me, so i’m only 99% sure.

“B.C.” is the name of one of the cavemen in that eponymous strip. The others are Peter, Wiley, Thor, Clumsy Carp, Curls, Grog, Fat Broad and Skinny Broad. Johnny Hart said he doesn’t remember where he came up from the name, though it might have been the suggestion of a fellow illustrator. “B.C.” was originally picked up by the New York Herald-Tribune Syndicate, so it appeared in more than just the Binghamton newspaper.

i dont see were i led you to believe i was under the impression i thought Binghamton’s paper was the ‘only’ one that ran the strip…but since i havent lived there since the mid '70’s, im pretty much aware it runs nationwide.

Last time i was back there though [Binghamton, NY, Broome County] i remember they had alot of the characters on park signs and etc…and when my buddy told me that, it seemed reasonable, and i’d never had too much interest in the strip and believed him…was mostly responding to an earlier post that referred to the BC as ‘Before Christ’, and i knew that for sure wasnt it.

sigh

phantomht, you’ll notice that I locked the previous thread on this subject. When that happens, it means that I don’t want to have a discussion on that topic here. It does not mean that you should just open up a new thread and continue where you left off. Understand? No, wait, don’t answer that, or if you do, answer via e-mail. We don’t need any extra threads around here.
