The best (?) and worst (!) Sci-Fi Channel Movies

Nitpick: I don’t think Dog Soldiers was a Sci-fi Channel movie, although it was shown there.

My fave SciFi Channel ANYTHING is a miniseries called “The Lost Room.” It absolutely rocked. Looked like it could easily have een made into a regular series, but apparently not. It was far and away better than anything else SciFi Channel has EVER done, which includes BSG. Most SciFi Channel products I like despite their problems. “The Lost Room” I could simply like.

With Peter Krause? If that was a SciFi Original, then yeah - the bestest.

my bad. you’re right. nary a whisper of anything connecting dog soldiers to scifi original programming.

Yeah, Peter Krause.

Looks like it was a SciFi Original or something very much like it. I checked the IMDB listing for it, and its production company is Lionsgate Films, and the ONLY US distributor listed is the SciFi Channel. There are other distributors listed from other countries, but the SciFi distribution is dated 2006, and the others are all dated 2007 or 2008. So, yah, looks like a SciFi Original. Score one for them.

An the bestest by a HUGE margin.

The Lost Room was fantastic. I want more of it. The Sci-Fi miniseries tend to be really good (Lost Room, Dresden Files, Eureka), while the movies are laughably bad. I enjoyed the hell out of Megasnake, though. So bad it was hilarious.

Just got “The Lost Room” on DVD for ten bucks at Best Buy. I look forward to watching it straight through without commercials. Great premise; really draws you in. They could easily extend it into another miniseries.

Actually I think there was one that really stuck out in awfullness, but I can’t remember the name. The sun was going through a cycle where it was flaring massive ion storms. Simultaniously, methane was building up in the atmosphere to the point where it could ignite. The flares ignited the atmosphere and we somehow had to rely on a soviet sub to detonate a nuclear bomb at the polar ice sheet to vaporize enough water to “put out” the fire.

I love to suspend belief, but this one was making my head spin way too much.

[nitpick hat on]Lost Room was indeed a miniseries. Dresden Files was a series that didn’t make the cut for renewal (Boo, SciFi!). And Eureka is a series that (I think) is going into its third season.

If I understand correctly, the OP was about SciFi Original Movies, which are pretty much uniformly wretched.[nitpick hat off]

I used to be a big fan of SciFi channel but the stuff their putting out nowdays, well it seems their useing the cookie cutter philosophy, all these movies look the same and seem to have similar plots. The CGI effects alone suggest SciFi is a training ground for the next generation of special effects wizards. All in all I think their current programing should be tanked and mabye put on some real SCIFI flicks as well as bringing back some older scifi series like they used to air / Farscape,Lexx,UFO,Space 1999,etc. these may be dated now but for real scifi fans like myself they would be appreciated. I understand there’s a budget they have to maintain but come on, there are a lot of scifi flicks out there to choose from. And I dont have anything against new productions, but at least try to produce quality work!!!. As far as current movies on SciFi go, IceSpiders and Sea Beast are two of my picks for worst flicks by SciFi channel, pure garbage.:smack:

Oh, wow. SyFy is showing zombie flicks now?
